Forward Nguyễn Xuân Son delivered a flawless performance in the final Asian Cup 2027 qualifying match, scoring a double against the Malaysian national team.
On the evening of March 31 at Thiên Trường Stadium, the Vietnamese national team continued their impressive form by securing a 3-1 victory over Malaysia in the final Group F match of the Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers. This win ensured Vietnam finished the qualifying stage with six consecutive victories, solidifying their top position in the region.
The star of the match was Nguyễn Xuân Son, who scored a crucial double in the 51st and 59th minutes. In the 51st minute, the Vietnamese-origin forward headed in accurately following Hoàng Hên's assist, making the score 2-0. Just eight minutes later, Xuân Son scored again with another precise header, giving Vietnam a 3-0 lead and essentially deciding the match.
The double against Malaysia also marked the milestone of 10 goals for Xuân Son for the Vietnamese national team, since he obtained Vietnamese citizenship at the end of 2024.
At the ASEAN Cup 2024, despite only playing in the final group stage match, Xuân Son quickly demonstrated his class by scoring 7 goals in 5 matches, contributing significantly to Vietnam's championship victory. He also received two individual awards: Top Scorer and Best Player of the tournament. In the match against Laos in the Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers in November 2025, Xuân Son returned from injury and also scored a goal.
