Garnacho points out his biggest regret upon leaving Manchester United.

In an interview with Premier League Productions, Garnacho admitted he regrets the manner of his departure from Manchester United. The Argentine player left Old Trafford under tense circumstances last summer, moving to Chelsea for a fee of £40 million.

Garnacho left Old Trafford last summer as part of the Bomb Squad group, after his relationship with manager Ruben Amorim deteriorated. The conflict between the two escalated when the South American player publicly criticized the Portuguese coach for not selecting him to start in the Europa League final, where Manchester United lost to Tottenham.

Garnacho's relationship with Amorim shattered after the Europa League final.

From then on, Amorim gradually sidelined Garnacho. Earlier in the season, he had also displeased the manager by wearing an Aston Villa jersey with Marcus Rashford's name on the back, after Rashford also had a separate conflict with Amorim. Reflecting on that period, Garnacho acknowledged that things could have been handled better on his part.

In a conversation with Premier League Productions, when asked if he regretted the way he left Manchester United, Garnacho replied: “Perhaps yes, because I loved that club deeply. They trusted me from the very beginning. From Spain, they brought me to the academy, and then promoted me to the first team. I spent about 4 or 5 years there, and received immense affection from everyone.

“From the fans, the stadium, everything was wonderful. Sometimes you just have to make a change for your own life and for the next step in your career. I only hold fond memories of Manchester United.”

Garnacho also shared more about his final months at Old Trafford, a period when he frequently had to sit on the bench under Amorim. He said: “I remember in the last 6 months, I wasn't playing regularly anymore. I started having to be a substitute, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

In the summer of 2025, Garnacho rebelled, skipping training to force a departure from Manchester United.

“I was only 20 at the time, but in my mind I thought I should be playing every match. Perhaps in my thinking, part of the fault lies with me, and I started doing a few things that weren't right.

“But that was just a moment in life, and sometimes you have to make a decision. I am very proud to be here at Chelsea, still playing in the Premier League for a club like this. Everyone knows what our squad is like and what we can achieve.

“Sometimes we have better phases, or worse ones. I am proud to be here. As for Manchester United, I have nothing bad to say about the club, about anyone in the team or my former teammates. It's just that there are times in life when things change, and life goes on. I carry no regrets.”

Garnacho is currently facing a difficult period at Chelsea.

Garnacho is about to have the opportunity to face both clubs that Chelsea always considers major rivals. This weekend, The Blues will host Pep Guardiola's Manchester City, before facing Michael Carrick's Manchester United next week at Stamford Bridge.
