Manchester City wins 4-1, sets up FA Cup final clash with Manchester United

Manchester City's U18 team secured a spot in the FA Youth Cup final for the 2025/26 season after convincingly defeating Blackburn Rovers U18 4-1 at home.

The FA Youth Cup semifinal match was thrilling and intense as Manchester City U18 hosted Blackburn Rovers U18 at their home ground.

Despite being underestimated compared to their opponent, the visiting team started confidently and quickly created a surprise. In the 11th minute, Valentin Joseph utilized his speed to break through the opponent's defense and score the opening goal, reinforcing his position as a top scorer in the league. This goal boosted Blackburn Rovers U18's morale, while Manchester City U18 faced significant challenges in finding opportunities to score.

However, a turning point arrived in the final minutes of the first half. After several missed opportunities, the home team increased pressure and was rewarded with an equalizing goal from Divine McAidoo, who scored with a precise shot into the lower corner. Shortly afterward, the blue-shirted players had a chance to take the lead from a penalty, but goalkeeper Harry Holt made an excellent save, allowing Blackburn Rovers U18 to maintain the balance before halftime.

In the second half, the game was completely dominated by the Manchester representatives. In the 52nd minute, Teddie Lamb gave the home team the lead with a tricky shot. By the 64th minute, Reigan Heskey successfully executed a penalty, widening the gap to 3-1. Not stopping there, Oliver Tevenan sealed the decisive 4-1 victory with a beautiful volley before the 70th minute.

This result helped Manchester City U18 secure a place in the final, after missing out last season with a 1-3 defeat to Aston Villa U18. In the final match of this season's FA Youth Cup, coach Oliver Reiss and his team will face the winner of the remaining semifinal between Manchester United U18 and Crystal Palace U18.

Meanwhile, the senior players at Manchester City's first team also have the opportunity to reach the FA Cup final for the fourth consecutive time.

Coach Pep Guardiola's squad only needs to face Southampton, a team currently playing in the English Championship. However, Manchester City's performance in the last two finals has been disappointing, as they lost to Manchester United (2023/24 season) and Crystal Palace (2024/25 season).
