AFC expresses one point as Vietnam's team loses 0-4 to Japan.

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) emphasizes the gap in quality as Vietnam's U20 women's team was decisively beaten 0-4 by Japan in the quarterfinals, even after a spirited beginning.

AFC points out Japan's comprehensive superiority following Vietnam's U20 women's 0-4 loss, as the East Asian representative displayed a distinct class difference in the quarterfinal match of the AFC U20 Women's Asian Cup 2026.

According to observations from the Asian Football Confederation, Japan's U20 women's team easily defeated Vietnam's U20 women's team 4-0 at Pathum Thani Stadium to secure a spot in the semifinals. The six-time champions not only controlled the game but also demonstrated superior finishing efficiency, thereby continuing their journey toward the title.

Nevertheless, Vietnam's U20 women's team started with great effort. In the initial minutes, the disciplined defense made it difficult for Japan to execute coordinated plays. Goalkeeper Le Thi Thu repeatedly blocked shots from Natsumi Tago, Mao Itamura, and Rinka Higuchi, showing high concentration under intense pressure.

Japan quickly created dangerous opportunities, notably Mone Sato's shot hitting the post in the 9th minute following Nao Fukushima's free-kick situation. By the 16th minute, Le Thi Thu again saved with a timely dive to block Itamura's header, but just two minutes later, this midfielder capitalized on a rebound inside the box to open the scoring.

After conceding the goal, Vietnam's U20 women's team strives to maintain a defensive stance, forcing Japan to attempt luck with long-range shots from Yura Honda or Fukushima, while aerial situations from Yuna Aoki and Sato lacked accuracy. However, continuous pressure gradually exposed gaps in the defensive system.

Another turning point arrived late in the first half as Japan scored two consecutive goals. Tago doubled the lead with skillful handling inside the box, before Fukushima headed in a goal from Hibari Hara's cross. The situation after halftime remained unchanged as Japan fully controlled the game, while Vietnam's U20 women's team couldn't make a difference, ending the match with a 0-4 loss that AFC assessed as a result of class disparity and efficiency.
