Chelsea Coach: 'We lost everything in just 5 minutes'

Coach Liam Rosenior acknowledged Chelsea's downfall was caused by errors and a fragile psychological state facing Manchester City, particularly during the pivotal opening minutes of the second half.

Coach Liam Rosenior shared candid remarks following Chelsea's 0-3 defeat to Manchester City, admitting the team collapsed within just a few critical minutes.

The loss at Stamford Bridge leaves Chelsea stuck in 6th place with 48 points after 32 matches, while Man City climbed to 64 points and continues to chase Arsenal in the title race.

Chelsea could not produce a surprise against Man City

Speaking after the match, Liam Rosenior did not evade responsibility by pointing out the biggest issue lay in how the team started the second half. He admitted Chelsea failed to meet professional standards and lacked necessary focus at the crucial moment: “We did not meet the required standards. Especially at the start of the second half, the team did not enter the game well. Within just 5 minutes, Man City took complete control and we paid the price.”

The Chelsea coach also emphasized that this scenario is not the first time it has occurred, as Chelsea consistently struggles to respond after unfavorable situations: “This has been repeating throughout this period. When facing strong teams, you must maintain composure after difficult moments. But we failed to do so.”

He also frankly admitted the psychological issue is clearly affecting the team, especially in the second half when confidence severely declined: “The second half was truly very difficult. We lacked belief and are going through a tough phase. This is something that must be improved immediately.”

Nevertheless, Rosenior still believed that if opportunities had been utilized well, the match situation could have been different. He cited the notable chance for Marc Cucurella: “If that opportunity had been converted into a goal, the team's morale could have changed. But football is like that, and we need to learn how to stand firm even when trailing.”

In closing, Chelsea's coach stressed that mental fortitude is what the team lacks: “Mistakes cost us. The important thing is to know how to stay in the game, even when facing adversity. That is what disappoints me most.”

Liam Rosenior's statements indicate Chelsea is not only facing professional issues, but also confronting a psychological challenge that could determine success or failure in the crucial stage of the season.
