Supercomputer predicts surprising outcome for Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid match

The Opta supercomputer has issued forecasts and data analysis prior to the Champions League quarter-final return leg clash between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

Following the defeat in the first leg at home, Real Madrid must secure a victory at Bayern Munich's Allianz Arena if they hope to keep their chances alive for reaching the UEFA Champions League semi-finals. However, the Opta supercomputer assesses this as a highly challenging task for the Royal club.

Specifically, according to data-driven simulations, Bayern Munich holds the advantage with 56.7% probability of winning, while Real Madrid only achieves 23%. The likelihood of a draw after 90 minutes is predicted at 20.3%.

Moreover, Bayern is granted up to 83.7% chance of advancing. Even further, the German representative possesses a 30.2% probability of reaching the Champions League title directly.

However, considering head-to-head records, the Bernabeu side has a slightly better track record compared to their opponent.

According to Opta statistics, Bayern's win in the first leg ended a nine-match streak without victory against Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League, with a record of two draws and seven losses.

Historically, Bayern has only defeated Real Madrid in both legs of a knockout round in the Champions League once. This achievement was set in the semi-finals of the 2000/01 season, when they secured a 1-0 away win and a 2-1 home victory.

Since the 2013/14 season, Real Madrid is one of the teams with the most away wins against Bayern across all competitions, with three victories, despite playing there only four times during this period. That record equals Dortmund (3 wins out of 17 matches) and Monchengladbach (3 wins out of 13 matches).

Additionally, Real Madrid remains unbeaten in their last four away visits to Bayern's stadium, with three wins and one draw.

In the Bundesliga era (since the 1963–1964 season), only two teams have experienced a streak of five consecutive away matches without defeat against Bayern: Werder Bremen (periods 1989–1992 and 2007–2010) and Koln (from 2003 to 2010).

Real Madrid holds a slight edge in head-to-head performance compared to Bayern Munich

In the upcoming match, coach Alvaro Arbeloa will be without the services of goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois due to an adductor muscle injury. Dani Ceballos and Ferland Mendy are also absent, while Rodrygo remains unavailable due to a long-term injury.

Under these circumstances, Real Madrid's hopes rest on the shoulders of the duo Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius, the team's top attacking superstars this season.

Facing a must-win situation, Mbappe and Vinicius will play crucial roles in breaking through the "wall" named Manuel Neuer, who delivered an outstanding performance in the first leg. This is also an opportunity for both to prove their mettle against major European rivals, thereby helping Real Madrid cling to their hopes of advancing.

On the other side, Bayern Munich under coach Vincent Kompany appears very confident with their stable form this season.

Not only possessing a solid defense led by Neuer, Bayern also boasts an explosive frontline with the trio Luis Díaz, Harry Kane, and Michael Olise. This "triplet" is expected to continue exerting heavy pressure on Real Madrid's defense, aiming for a ticket to the Champions League semi-finals.

The match between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid will take place at 2:00 AM on April 16.
