Will Da Nang Club change its coach?

Drawing with Ninh Binh (round 15), being held back at home by direct competitor for the relegation survival spot HAGL (match 16), losing again to CAHN at Chi Lang (formerly Hoa Xuan), in the postponed match of round 13, again CAHN with a devastating 5-1 performance (round 17), and the recent loss to SLNA in round 18 is the final limit.

In the last 5 matches, SHB Da Nang has not tasted victory and only secured 2 out of 15 maximum points, dropping to the bottom of the LPBank V-League 2025/26 standings after 18 rounds with merely 12 points.

According to our sources, coach Le Duc Tuan may have to leave the hot seat, and the person expected to take over is Tran Minh Chiến. If this becomes reality, then today (April 15), former head coach of Becamex Binh Duong and Ho Chi Minh City Club, Tran Minh Chiến, will arrive in Da Nang to begin work.

Actually, the young coach Le Duc Tuan is not lacking in talent, having led SHB Da Nang for over a season after taking over the team from Cristiano Roland and coach Phan Thanh Hung (2025). Previously, coach Duc Tuan spent many years coaching youth teams of Hanoi Club, served as assistant then acting head coach of Hanoi's first team, and only in 2025 took the hot seat at Chi Lang.

Coach Le Duc Tuan is quite meticulous in tactical preparation, gentle and thus beloved by the players, but true courage in actual combat, ability to confront and accept defeat is another story.

The domestic player lineup of SHB Da Nang is quite good, with some called up to the U23 Vietnam team, even the national team (2023-2026 period), notably Phi Hoang, Duy Cuong..., but patchy foreign players are a major issue, as the club on the Han River bank returns to Vietnam's top league. For a club in V-League, foreign players, naturalized foreigners, and Vietnamese overseas players... account for over 50% of strength and conquering capability.

Since after the 2017 season, when legend Le Huynh Duc retired after 10 years coaching SHB Da Nang, an unprecedented record, this club fell into crisis, starting from the coaching staff cabin. 7 coaches have held this position, locals (like Phan Thanh Hung and Dao Quang Hung), outsiders (Nguyen Minh Phuong, Truong Viet Hoang and Le Duc Tuan), even foreigners (Cristiano Roland)... but the team has never returned to its peak era (2008-2012, with 2 V-League championships).

If Le Duc Tuan indeed leaves and Tran Minh Chiến is considered, can he save SHB Da Nang standing at the bottom, when the league only has 8 rounds left?! Time will give the answer.

Speaking of Tran Minh Chiến, at this time last year, he also packed up and flew to Quy Nhon aiming to rescue Binh Dinh in distress, but failed. In the last 5 matches under coach Tran Minh Chiến, Binh Dinh only got 2 points and relegated.

Coach Minh Chiến then made a bold decision by benching a series of team pillars, replacing them with younger players with more ambition. But, wisdom doesn't necessarily come with youth, especially in a critical period, and the result was Binh Dinh could not be saved.

For SHB Da Nang, a team with stronger force compared to last season's Binh Dinh, along with strong backing, Tran Minh Chiến, considered a "firefighting expert" and youth developer, believes he can overcome difficulties successfully. Whatever is said, Tran Minh Chiến is someone very familiar with the qualities of young players after over 20 years working in this environment, and SHB Da Nang has nothing but youth, just need to clearly identify opponents to play and succeed.

Wishing the SHB Da Nang ship to overcome the storm as it once defeated super typhoon Xangsane exactly 20 years ago or most recently successfully survived relegation last season, with a very tough sprint in the final stage.
