Bernardo Silva cautions Manchester City against complacency even after defeating Arsenal, stressing that the championship chase is still lengthy and uncertain.
The dramatic 2-1 victory over Arsenal not only helped Manchester City narrow the gap in the title race but also provided significant confidence for Pep Guardiola and his team during the decisive phase of the season.
The top-tier match at Etihad Stadium was thrilling from the opening minutes as both teams repeatedly created dangerous opportunities. After both sides scored early, the game remained open with numerous back-and-forth exchanges. The turning point came in the 65th minute when Erling Haaland used his strength to break through Arsenal's defense and score the decisive goal, causing Etihad Stadium to erupt.
Despite securing all three points, Bernardo Silva remained cautious when discussing the title race. The Portuguese midfielder acknowledged that this victory holds great significance but is not everything.
"This is an extremely important result because it puts us in a position to level the points if we win the postponed match. Two weeks ago, this scenario seemed very unlikely," Silva shared.
He also expressed great respect for Arsenal, noting that the opponent created considerable turbulence, especially with shots hitting the post in the second half. According to Silva, such major matches are always decided by small details.
"We played well until a mistake led to the equalizing goal. After that, the match became more difficult. In the second half, even though we controlled the game, we clearly sensed the danger from them. In matches like this, even a small moment can make a difference," he analyzed.
More importantly, the Portuguese star emphasized that the season is still long and Manchester City cannot afford to be complacent: "This is a long season. There have been many matches where we were unlucky or missed opportunities we should have won. Today everything favored us, but the road ahead still has many challenges," Silva concluded.
The victory over Arsenal gives Manchester City a significant advantage with one postponed match remaining, but as Bernardo Silva himself affirmed, the title race is not yet settled and everything can change in just a moment.
