OFFICIAL: The five-time Premier League champion club dismisses two managers within four months

Chelsea has decided to sack head coach Liam Rosenior following a 0-3 defeat to Brighton, according to information from the club's official website.

The official Chelsea club website announced: “On behalf of the entire club, Chelsea extends its gratitude to Rosenior and his coaching staff for their efforts during their tenure at the team. Since his appointment mid-season, Rosenior consistently demonstrated professionalism and a strong sense of responsibility in his work.

This was not an easy decision for the club. However, recent results and performances have not met the established standards, given that the season still has many objectives ahead. Chelsea also wishes Rosenior success in his future endeavors.

In the interim, Calum McFarlane will assume the role of temporary head coach until the end of the season, supported by the current coaching team, as Chelsea continues to pursue its goal of securing European qualification and advancing in the FA Cup. While seeking stability for the head coach position, the club will conduct a comprehensive review to make a suitable choice for its long-term plans.”

The London-based club is undergoing a severe crisis period having lost five consecutive Premier League matches without scoring any goals, the worst record since 1912. This disappointing streak of form forced Chelsea's leadership to make a coaching change for the second time this season.

Rosenior only joined Chelsea in January this year, replacing Enzo Maresca. He moved from partner club Strasbourg and signed a long-term five-and-a-half-year contract. However, the strategist's tenure quickly ended after a series of poor results.

In recent months, the situation at Chelsea has become tense as fans continuously protested against the BlueCo ownership, the group that also owns Strasbourg within the multi-club model. Previously, supporters of the French club had also sharply criticized Rosenior's move to Chelsea, calling it “a shameful step, demonstrating Strasbourg's dependency on Chelsea.”

In March, Chelsea co-owner Behdad Eghbali still publicly supported Rosenior and believed this coach could succeed. However, everything changed after the defeat to Brighton, when Rosenior publicly criticized Chelsea players for a performance he described as “unacceptable.”

Previously, Chelsea dismissed manager Enzo Maresca on the first day of 2026. Enzo Maresca helped Chelsea win the Europa Conference League last season and clinched the Club World Cup this past summer. However, in the current season, the team faces the risk of failing to secure European qualification. They were also eliminated from the Champions League with an aggregate score of 2-8 against PSG and halted in the Carabao Cup after a loss to rival Arsenal.
