Chelsea sacks manager Liam Rosenior following disastrous run of results

Chelsea Football Club has officially dismissed head coach Liam Rosenior after less than four months in charge, concluding a brief yet deeply disappointing period at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea can no longer tolerate Liam Rosenior

The decision was made immediately following a 0-3 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion, marking The Blues' fifth consecutive loss in the Premier League. Notably, the London club failed to score a single goal across these five matches.

Rosenior was appointed on January 6th, replacing Enzo Maresca, and signed a long-term contract of five and a half years. However, poor results forced Chelsea's leadership to act early, despite the previous long-term commitment. Over 23 matches in charge, the 41-year-old strategist won 11, drew 2, and lost 10.

In the official announcement, Chelsea stated this was "a very difficult decision," while acknowledging Rosenior's professionalism and efforts during his tenure. Nevertheless, the club stressed that recent results and performances "did not meet the required standards" given the season's remaining important objectives.

Assistant coach Calum McFarlane will temporarily lead the team until the end of the season, tasked with improving results, aiming for European qualification, and progressing deep into the FA Cup.

The poor run of form has seen Chelsea drop to 7th place in the standings, trailing 5th-placed Liverpool by 7 points, while their rivals have played one fewer match. Consequently, the chance of securing a UEFA Champions League spot has become more precarious than ever.

It is noteworthy that just days earlier, co-owner Behdad Eghbali emphasized his desire for stability in the managerial position. However, performance pressure led the leadership to "reverse course," extending the cycle of instability in the head coach role.

Liam Rosenior signed a six-year contract with Chelsea, but only four months have passed... With the remaining five years and eight months, he is expected to pocket £24 million in contract compensation. Undoubtedly, this is a significant figure, if not a very substantial one.

Chelsea will face Leeds United in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley Stadium this weekend – a match crucial to salvaging a turbulent season.
