Coach Brazil 'warns' Vietnam U17 about Malaysia in the final

Coach Cristiano Roland shows prudence in his comments about Malaysia U17 before the Southeast Asia U17 Championship 2026 final, even though Vietnam U17 previously beat this opponent twice with heavy scores in the group stage.

Speaking at the press conference after the 2-1 victory over Australia U17 in the semifinal on April 22, the Brazilian coach emphasized the team's immediate goal is to maintain focus for the decisive match: “We still have a very important match ahead. The whole team needs to maintain high concentration and prepare optimally for the final.”

Evaluating the opponent, Coach Cristiano Roland believes Malaysia U17 will enter the final match with a different appearance compared to previous encounters. “Malaysia will enter the final with completely different form and mentality. Therefore, we need thorough preparation and must not be complacent,” he stated.

Previously, Vietnam U17 twice overcame Malaysia U17 with the same 4-0 score in the group stage and the Asian U17 qualifiers, showing a significant gap in skill. However, according to Coach Roland, these results hold little reference value for the final—where psychological factors and competitive spirit play a key role.

In the semifinal, Vietnam U17 demonstrated stable performance by defeating Australia U17 2-1 to secure a spot in the final. Meanwhile, Malaysia U17 also showed improvement by beating Laos U17 3-0, thus becoming the final opponent for Coach Cristiano Roland's team.

The warnings from the Brazilian strategist indicate Vietnam U17 is approaching the final with necessary caution, in a context where Malaysia U17 is predicted to play with higher determination and a completely different spirit compared to the group stage.

The Southeast Asia U17 Championship 2026 final between Vietnam and Malaysia will take place at 7:30 PM on April 24. Earlier at 3:30 PM, Australia U17 and Laos U17 will compete in the third-place match.
