Leading the Premier League, Manchester City still faces significant pressure as Pep Guardiola asserts that winning all five remaining matches is the only path to victory.
After a crucial victory that helped Manchester City temporarily climb to the top of the standings, Pep Guardiola remains cautious, stating that his team has "only one route" to win the title: winning all remaining matches.
Man City just experienced a pivotal week by defeating Arsenal in the "early final," before narrowly overcoming Burnley. However, despite taking the top spot, they only lead Arsenal in goals scored, as both teams are tied on points and goal difference.
This situation means Pep Guardiola does not allow his players to be complacent. He emphasized that the team has no margin for error if they want to defend their championship ambitions: “After the FA Cup, we have five matches left. The only way is to win all of them,” Pep Guardiola stated.
Despite securing three points against Burnley, Man City's performance was not entirely convincing. They launched 28 shots but only nine were on target and they failed to increase their lead. Erling Haaland scored the only goal very early, but later missed several opportunities, including a shot that hit the post.
Pep Guardiola admitted the team hasn't reached its peak form, but he isn't overly concerned. According to him, the intense schedule of continuous matches makes it difficult for players to maintain sharpness, especially after the tense clash with Arsenal: “I'm not disappointed. We got three points and are leading. Of course the team could play better, but the players did everything,” Pep Guardiola added.
Man City's upcoming schedule remains challenging with away trips to Everton and Bournemouth, along with home matches against Brentford, Crystal Palace, and Aston Villa. The title race is likely to be decided only in the final round.
Given that Arsenal is also fiercely chasing, Pep Guardiola understands that even a single slip-up could undo all efforts. Therefore, the message of "win all or nothing" is being clearly conveyed to the entire team.
