The format for the FIFA ASEAN Cup is about to be announced, and Australia may be invited to participate.

The chance for Vietnam's national team to win the FIFA ASEAN Cup is present, yet they will encounter intense rivalry from numerous powerful contenders.

Specifically, the Indonesian national team will certainly strengthen its squad with players competing abroad, including those playing in Europe.

Prominent names such as Jay Idzes, Kevin Diks, Calvin Verdonk, Ole Romeny, Ragnar Oratmangoen, and Emil Audero will return to the starting lineup of this team.

Currently, the Indonesian Football Association and local media are very confident, and if they can become the strongest team, Indonesia will be the first country to win the FIFA ASEAN Cup championship.

This was shared by national football expert Ronny Pangemanan on his personal YouTube channel, Bung Ropan.

Since this is the first tournament initiated by FIFA in the Southeast Asia region, the format and other regulations will soon be discussed in Canada, specifically in Vancouver.

"FIFA has planned a tournament named the FIFA ASEAN Cup in September–October, coinciding with the FIFA Matchday schedule. The tournament is expected to involve around 11 to 12 teams.

Regarding the competition format, we must wait. Because in FIFA's discussions, FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced that the format will be disclosed soon," added Ropan – the nickname of Ronny Pangemanan.

Besides Southeast Asian countries, FIFA may also invite Australia to participate.

"This is the first time in FIFA's history that the FIFA ASEAN Cup is organized specifically for Southeast Asian nations. Additionally, Australia might be included to make a total of 12 teams," said Ropan.

In the coming period, PSSI President Erick Thohir will fly to Vancouver.

"The President of the Indonesian Football Association, Erick Thohir, stated that he was invited by FIFA to attend a meeting. There will be a meeting program in Vancouver, Canada. All delegates will be invited to participate.

There, the format of the FIFA ASEAN Cup will be discussed. Not only that, but many other topics will be covered, including the upcoming 2026 World Cup.

Many agenda items will be discussed. One of them is the FIFA ASEAN Cup. Based on what Gianni Infantino previously said in Kuala Lumpur, the FIFA ASEAN Cup might resemble the FIFA Arab Cup.

If there are 12 teams as FIFA desires, they could be divided into groups. Each group consists of 4 teams. The top two teams from each group advance to the next round. Then the format will be arranged further.

It could also be divided into two groups, each with 6 teams. The top team from each group would directly enter the final.

The second-place teams from Groups A and B after the group stage might compete for third and fourth places. This is entirely possible.

However, everything still depends on subsequent discussions and will be agreed upon by the attending delegates. The final decision will be made by FIFA."

Ropan further stated that the opportunity for Indonesia to make history is very feasible. With the current squad, coach John Herdman can utilize players competing overseas, who have become key figures in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers and recent FIFA Series.

Since this is FIFA's match schedule, all players competing abroad, especially in Europe, can return to represent the Indonesian national team.

Being the first edition, the chance for Indonesia to win is very high. Especially if we can become the first country to crown the FIFA ASEAN Cup," concluded Ropan.
