Top 10 world goalkeeper returns, helps Vietnam team win 22-0

Ho Van Yi returns as starting goalkeeper on the day the "Vietnam Futsal National Team" downsized squad achieves a 22-0 victory at the Ho Chi Minh City Sports Festival.

Possessing a squad with half being Vietnamese futsal players who just secured third place at the 2026 Southeast Asian Futsal Championship, Chanh Hung Thai Son Nam created a dominant 22-0 victory over Phu Lam Vietnam Germany University in the opening match of futsal at the 1st Ho Chi Minh City Sports Festival in 2026.

On April 23 afternoon, at the Chanh Hung Ward Futsal Stadium, Chanh Hung Thai Son Nam entered their opening match against Phu Lam Vietnam Germany University. This is the only professional futsal team participating in the festival, and also the Ho Chi Minh City Thai Son Nam Club – the reigning champion of the National Futsal Championship and a dominant force in the tournament with 14 championship titles after 19 editions.

The lineup of Chanh Hung Thai Son Nam gathers 7 out of 14 players who recently helped the Vietnamese futsal national team achieve third place at the 2026 Southeast Asian Futsal Championship held in Thailand mid-month. Additionally, the team possesses three winners of the Vietnamese Futsal Golden Ball award, including goalkeeper Ho Van Yi (2021, 2022), Nguyen Thinh Phat (2024), and Chau Doan Phat (2025).

Most notably is the return of Ho Van Yi to the main lineup. The goalkeeper who once ranked among the world's top 10 just returned after 8 months sidelined due to ligament injury. Once the Vietnamese Futsal Golden Ball winner, the star number 1 in two World Cup editions, but failing to maintain previous form and injuries meant Ho Van Yi was no longer the first-choice goalkeeper. At the 2026 Southeast Asian Futsal Championship, Ho Van Yi did not play any match for the Vietnam Futsal National Team.

With superior strength, coach Nguyen Tuan Anh and his team quickly imposed their game and gave the opponent few chances to resist. Already in the first half, Chanh Hung Thai Son Nam led by 13-0. Nguyen Thinh Phat shone with a poker of 4 goals, while Chu Van Tien also managed a hat-trick.

Entering the second half, even playing at a not overly high pace, Chanh Hung Thai Son Nam continued to add 9 more goals to conclude the match with a resounding 22-0 victory. Dao Minh Quang also completed his second brace in the match, thereby raising his personal goal tally to 4 after scoring a brace in the first half.
