Vietnam U17 convincingly won the Southeast Asia 2026 championship after a 3-0 victory over Malaysia U17, not only setting a new record but also receiving an immediate reward from the Vietnam Football Federation, thereby affirming their top regional position.
The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) decided to grant an immediate reward of 500 million VND to coach Cristiano Roland and his team following their impressive achievement at the U17 Southeast Asia 2026 tournament. This deserved reward further highlights Vietnam U17's impact as they demonstrated superior strength, defeating Malaysia U17 3-0 in the final to claim the regional championship for the fourth time. Thus, VFF has awarded our young players a total reward of up to 1.1 billion VND for this year's U17 Southeast Asia campaign.
On the evening of April 24, Vietnam U17 entered the final match against Malaysia U17 with high confidence and quickly imposed their game plan right after the opening whistle. Their proactive, high-speed play allowed the red-shirted team to continuously apply pressure, forcing the opponent's defense to work hard. In the 6th minute, Sy Bach made the audience jump up with a burst of speed and a shot that hit the post, initiating the dominant phase.
The overwhelming advantage was quickly realized with a goal in the 11th minute. From a corner situation, Quy Vuong seized the opportunity extremely fast inside the penalty area to make a decisive finish, putting Vietnam U17 ahead. After the goal, the game was completely under Vietnam's control, with clear coordination and effective pressing.
Although Malaysia U17 had certain responses, notably Yusuf's long-range shot in the 24th minute, the solidity of the defense and good organization helped Vietnam U17 neutralize all threats. Before the first half ended, Nguyen Luc delivered a clever through pass for Van Duong to break away and finish calmly, raising the score to 2-0, creating a significant advantage.
In the second half, with nothing left to lose, Malaysia U17 had to push their formation higher. However, this opened opportunities for Vietnam U17 to exploit the gaps. In the 55th minute, Tri Dung intelligently broke the offside trap before facilitating an assist for Van Duong to complete a double, securing a 3-0 victory.
In the remaining minutes, Vietnam U17 actively slowed the pace but maintained a solid game. Although Ngoc Son missed a golden opportunity in the 84th minute, the overall victory remained unaffected. This result not only helped Vietnam U17 successfully defend their title but also marked their fourth coronation, making them the most successful team in the tournament's history.
Notably, this is also the first title for coach Cristiano Roland with Vietnam U17, allowing him to enter history as the first South American coach to win a championship at national team levels in the region. This success continues to affirm the strong development of Vietnamese youth football on the Southeast Asian map.
