Former Manchester United captain continues to fuel the 'fire of feud' with the Haaland family

Legend Roy Keane reignites the longstanding feud spanning over two decades with the Haaland family through a controversial statement regarding the clash between Erling Haaland and Gabriel Magalhães.

During Manchester City's 2-1 victory over Arsenal, Haaland was head-butted by Gabriel but remained standing instead of falling to the ground. The Arsenal defender only received a yellow card, while the Norwegian striker was praised for his fair-play spirit.

However, speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, Keane offered a different perspective. The former Manchester United captain sarcastically remarked: "His father would have fallen down!" This statement is seen as a direct jab aimed at Alf-Inge Haaland, Erling's father.

The animosity between Keane and Alf-Inge Haaland originated in the late 1990s. In 1997, while playing for Leeds United, Alf-Inge stood beside Keane and accused the Irish midfielder of feigning injury, when in fact he had suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

The climax occurred in 2001, when Keane executed a brutal tackle directly targeting Haaland's right knee during the Manchester derby. This incident led to his dismissal from the match and subsequently resulted in a suspension and heavy penalties from the English Football Association. The injury also contributed to Alf-Inge Haaland's career ending prematurely.

In his autobiography, Keane even admitted to intentional "retribution," sparking a wave of fierce criticism. Nevertheless, the former star born in 1971 has repeatedly asserted he has no regrets about what happened on the pitch.

In recent years, Keane has also frequently attacked Erling Haaland, from calling him a "low-level player" in overall play to criticizing his reaction when being substituted.

The latest remarks indicate that the feud between Keane and the Haaland family shows no signs of cooling down, despite over 25 years having passed since the initial clashes.
