FIFA unexpectedly names Vietnam U17 after Southeast Asian championship

FIFA's homepage just sent a message to Vietnam U17 at the AFC U17 Championship 2026, right after coach Roland's team won the Southeast Asian U17 title.

The FIFA World Cup website posted images of the team Vietnam U17 after coach Roland's team won the Southeast Asian U17 Championship 2026, accompanied by a brief but meaningful message: "Towards the next goal." This is seen as a congratulation, and also the expectation the world football community holds for coach Cristiano Roland's team.

Vietnam U17's regional championship is considered fully deserved. The young team displayed impressive form by remaining unbeaten in all 6 matches, marked by solid and effective play. Notably, Vietnam U17's defense conceded only 1 goal throughout their title journey, showing stability and high tactical discipline.

Not only winning the championship cup, Vietnam U17 also "swept" important individual awards. Chu Ngoc Nguyen Luc was honored as the tournament's best player, while Ly Xuan Hoa received the best goalkeeper award. These awards partly reflect the superiority of the Vietnam U17 collective compared to the rest of the tournament.

The message "Towards the next goal" from FIFA also opens a new journey for the young team. Immediately after crowning, Vietnam U17 will quickly return home and enter the preparation phase for the AFC U17 Championship 2026, taking place in Saudi Arabia in early May.

This will be a much more challenging arena, where Vietnam U17 must face top continental opponents. Specifically from May 7 to May 14, coach Roland's team will have to play 3 consecutive matches against opponents like Yemen, South Korea, and UAE, with an average density of 2.33 days/match. This is a crucial stage, requiring maximum rotation ability and physical recovery. However, with the foundation of form and confidence after the Southeast Asian championship, coach Cristiano Roland's team has full grounds to aim for higher goals.

The recognition from FIFA is not only pride, but also a great motivation for Vietnam U17 to continue asserting themselves on the Asian stage.
