Coach Michael Carrick praised Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes following the win against Brentford, which brought Manchester United nearer to a Champions League qualification.
Coach Michael Carrick could not hide his satisfaction after Manchester United secured a crucial 2-1 victory over Brentford, thereby moving very close to a Champions League ticket for next season.
The match at Old Trafford saw a strong impact from the midfield duo. Casemiro opened the scoring early with a precise header following an indirect assist from Bruno Fernandes. Before the first half ended, Fernandes shone again with a powerful dribble and a clever through pass that allowed Benjamin Šeško to double the lead.
Despite Mathias Jensen reducing the deficit late in the match, Manchester United held firm to secure all three points, thereby solidifying their third-place position in the Premier League standings.
Speaking after the match, Carrick gave much praise to his two key players: “Casemiro has scored very important goals for us. He and Bruno have a fantastic connection. We almost score in every match, and Bruno is a key factor in that. He could even have had another assist and scored himself.”
Notably, Casemiro, who is likely to leave the club when his contract expires, is showing impressive form with 4 goals in his last 6 matches. Meanwhile, Bruno Fernandes continues to prove his leadership role, having provided 19 assists this season, just one short of the Premier League record.
Carrick also admitted that Manchester United's journey back to the top has not been easy: “There were times when we were not the strongest contenders. But now the team is in a very good position and wants to finish the season as high as possible.”
Since taking over the team during a difficult period after Ruben Amorim's tenure, Carrick has helped the "Red Devils" transform significantly. From sixth place, Manchester United now only needs 2 more points from their remaining 4 matches to officially secure a Champions League spot.
The English coach emphasized: “The spirit, effort, and unity of the whole team are the best things. This is a stage where results are everything, and we have achieved that. Ahead is a big match against Liverpool, and we are very much looking forward to it.”
