HLV Park Hang Seo celebrates the first victory of the South Korean national team

South Korea’s national team began their 2026 World Cup campaign smoothly, rallying for a 2-1 win over the Czech Republic in their first Group A match.

Right after the match ended, former Vietnam national team head coach Park Hang Seo posted a congratulatory message on his personal page addressed to his home country’s team.

"I am truly happy and honored to return to the World Cup to accompany the South Korean national team. Congratulations to the Taegeuk Warriors on their first victory at this year's tournament. I am very proud of the fighting spirit shown by the players. What an impressive comeback!" shared coach Park Hang Seo.

After their first win at the 2026 World Cup, South Korea temporarily sits second in Group A (behind Mexico) due to an inferior goal difference.

At the 2026 World Cup, coach Park Hang Seo serves as the head of the National Team Support Committee.

Previously, he was appointed vice president of the Korea Football Association (KFA). He brings 28 years of experience working in his home country, having served as a key assistant to coach Guus Hiddink during the historic run to the 2002 World Cup semifinals.

The presence of coach Park Hang Seo is expected to provide solid support in both logistics and expertise for head coach Hong Myung Bo.

The victory of the South Korean team accurately reflected the game's dynamics, as Hong Myung-bo's players dominated the Czech Republic throughout the match.

Although stars Son Heung Min and Lee Kang In did not shine, South Korea still secured all three points thanks to the inspiration of Hwang In Beom, the central midfielder currently playing for Dutch club Feyenoord.
