Manchester United has landed Liverpool academy striker Vincent Joseph, having finalized a scholarship deal with him. The 16-year-old English center-forward played twice for Liverpool’s U16s last season, netting three goals. Capable of operating as a forward, attacking midfielder, or winger, Joseph is nicknamed "the Musiala of Anfield."

Joseph only turned 16 in January but has already featured for Liverpool's U18 side, scoring just ten minutes into his debut. His other two goals came in a 4-3 victory over Nottingham Forest. However, after the season, Joseph was not included in Liverpool's list of academy scholars, signaling his departure.
Many clubs showed interest, including Manchester United, who expressed strong admiration. It is reported that Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund regularly scouted the youngster, especially after he captained Liverpool's U15 team in the Bayern Elite Cup.
But Joseph ultimately chose Manchester United. Although he joined Liverpool's academy at age nine and signed his first contract witnessed by Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joseph grew up supporting Liverpool's arch-rival—he is a devoted Manchester United fan!
Joseph comes from a football family. His older brother, Valentine Joseph, plays for Blackburn Rovers' U18 team and is also a highly promising talent. In the U18 Premier League this season, he contributed 14 goals or assists in 19 games, averaging one every 92 minutes, including three goals in two matches against his brother's former team, Liverpool.
Internationally, Joseph is eligible to represent England and Germany. He was first called up to the German U15 national team last year, and later received an England call-up. Last season, he played nine times for England's U16 side, scoring eight goals, earning high praise from the national youth coaching staff.

Given his ties to both England and Germany, it's no surprise he is called Liverpool's Musiala, as Bayern's German prodigy has a similar background.
Musiala came through Chelsea's academy, progressed through England's youth teams, and made his England U21 debut in 2020. However, a few months later, he decided to represent his birthplace, Germany, and made his senior debut for Germany in March 2021 against Iceland. It is said that although Musiala grew up in England, he felt loyal to his country of birth.
Joseph, however, seems to have made the opposite decision to Musiala. His signing aligns with Manchester United owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe's "lottery ticket" approach to youth development. United is also actively trying to poach Issac Konde from Liverpool, a 16-year-old winger who can also play in midfield, with ongoing talks between United and his agent.
The market for players around the age of 16 is now more competitive than ever, with Brexit inflating the value of young English players. Premier League clubs can no longer strengthen their academies by signing overseas players under 18, making it crucial to recruit, retain, and develop the best domestic talent.

In the past, players who received a two-year scholarship at 16 often stayed, but now more and more youngsters choose to move at that age. First-year scholars typically earn a fixed monthly salary of around £1,500, but other clubs can lure them away before they sign the scholarship application by offering a lucrative pre-professional contract agreement, which converts to a full professional contract when they turn 17. Besides money, a clearer pathway to the first team is also used as an incentive.
