Tottenham have made the fastest moves in the Premier League summer window, confirming three new arrivals. Nevertheless, their bid to sign Matheus Fernandes appears doomed. Spurs have reached out to Jorge Mendes, M Fee's agent, while Roberto De Zerbi is pushing hard for the 21-year-old midfield prodigy to join his squad, potentially lining up alongside Italian star Sandro Tonali.

Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano said: "Manchester United started working weeks ago, directly contacting West Ham and M Fee's representatives. They've already discussed personal terms, and the two clubs are in substantive talks. Tottenham called the player's agent for a conversation and are indeed interested in M Fee. As for Real Madrid, M Fee was a name mentioned by Mourinho at a board meeting 10 days ago."
Manchester United are the furthest along in the M Fee transfer, and crucially, the player himself prefers to play at Old Trafford. Although Romano says it's still uncertain which club M Fee will end up at, Tottenham sources admit the player has made it clear his heart is set on United. A reliable Tottenham source said: "His heart is set on United."
The negotiations for M Fee will be a long battle, at least for the remainder of June. Reports suggest West Ham need to raise between £100 million and £150 million by selling players before July, and if so, United believe they can take advantage to drive down the price. However, the Hammers insist they are under no pressure to sell. The truth will be revealed in the next 10 days, which could accelerate M Fee's talks.
The Manchester Evening News reports that United are working hard to sign M Fee but are in no rush to reach an agreement with West Ham. A key date is June 30, when the 2025/26 accounting period ends for Premier League and Championship clubs, forcing them to balance their books.

In the final 10 days of this month, some clubs will have to sell players. West Ham are likely among them, having posted a loss of £104.2 million in the previous financial year. Their February financial report indicates that even if they avoid relegation, they still need to sell players to improve their accounts and avoid breaching Premier League or Championship financial rules.
West Ham may have other saleable players, but M Fee is certainly the most valuable. That's why United are not rushing with an offer. However, if the Hammers manage to withstand the pressure to complete a deal this month, United may have to slightly raise their bid in negotiations.
At that point, United could change tactics by suggesting they have other options to put pressure on West Ham. BBC's Simon Stone says Brighton's Carlos Baleba remains a possible target for United, having already reached a personal agreement with the club last year. Stone explained: "I do think Baleba is possible. Not many are talking about him, and most are against it. They tried to sign him last summer but Brighton strongly resisted. Brighton have now sold a player, Van Hecke, and I think Baleba's transfer fee will be lower than last year. If for some reason United think M Fee cannot be signed, restarting the Baleba deal should not be difficult."
The transfer fee for M Fee will determine the funds United have for further signings. The Athletic's Laurie Whitwell explained: "Currently, United's main focus is midfield rebuilding. They need to bring in several players, and the most critical one right now is M Fee. The cost of signing him will dictate what further moves the club can make."

However, Sky Sports' Dharmesh Sheth says United have given up on signing Moroccan international Ayoub Buadi, whose price has skyrocketed after his impressive World Cup performances. Lille are demanding £80 million, and there is heavy competition. "Sky Sports reported in January that United had Buadi on their midfield shortlist," Sheth said. "But this summer, they are leaning towards other midfield targets. Ederson has already been signed, and now it's M Fee."
