Malaysia has appointed Tan Cheng Hoe as the interim head coach.

FAM today confirmed the appointment of Tan Cheng Hoe as the temporary head coach of the Malaysian national team, replacing Peter Cklamovski.

Tan Cheng Hoe's appointment was made after FAM evaluated his experience, achievements, and deep insight into Malaysian football.

FAM believes that his experience, expertise, and knowledge of domestic football will be crucial assets, helping to strengthen the Malaysian team's performance.

Tan Cheng Hoe is one of Malaysia's most experienced local coaches. He began his coaching career as an assistant for the Malaysia U20 team from 2005 to 2009, then served as an assistant for the Malaysia U23 team from 2009 to 2010.

He also worked as an assistant coach for the Malaysian national team from 2009 to 2013, and returned to that role in 2017. In December 2017, he was officially appointed head coach of Malaysia, leading the team until December 2021.

Among his outstanding achievements, he helped Malaysia win the 2009 SEA Games gold medal and the 2010 AFF Suzuki Cup as an assistant to K. Rajagobal. As head coach, he led Malaysia to the 2018 AFF Suzuki Cup final, finishing as runners-up.

At the club level, Tan Cheng Hoe achieved considerable success with Kedah Darul Aman FC, guiding them to the 2015 Malaysia Premier League title, the 2016 Malaysia Cup, and the 2017 Piala Sumbangsih. Under his leadership, Kedah also became one of the most consistent teams in the Malaysia Super League.

In addition to Kedah, Tan Cheng Hoe coached Selangor FC from 2022 to 2024 before moving to Thailand to become head coach of Police Tero FC.

In April 2025, the 58-year-old coach, originally from Alor Setar in Kedah, returned to FAM after being appointed Technical Director of Malaysia's national teams.

FAM expects that the appointment of Tan Cheng Hoe as interim head coach will bring fresh energy to the Malaysian national team, thereby helping to improve their results in Asian and international competitions.
