Just five minutes into the match, Jonathan David controlled a teammate's headed flick, hesitated when shooting from the left side of the box against Bono, and his attempt was blocked.
In the 10th minute, Oluwaseyi received a through ball for a one-on-one chance, but his turning shot was saved by Bono's leg as he rushed out in time.
In the 22nd minute, Morocco lost a key player as Saibari was injured and had to be substituted, replaced by Rahimi. Just three days earlier, Bayern Munich had officially announced Saibari's signing, reportedly for a transfer fee of €55 million.
In the 40th minute, Ashraf deliberately pushed an opponent during a defensive action, sparking anger from Canadian players and leading to a minor scuffle between the two teams. As a result, both Ashraf and Laryea received yellow cards for their argument.
After six minutes of added time, the teams went into halftime with a 0-0 draw. At the break, referee Oliver had already issued six yellow cards.
