Santos meets Carrick at Manchester United, will join training next week! Ederson's transfer falls through, leaves disappointed

The transfer of Chelsea midfielder Andre Santos to Manchester United has not been officially confirmed by the club, yet the £50 million move is without any doubt. The 22-year-old has finished all the necessary procedures, with only the official announcement pending. He can be declared as the Red Devils' first summer signing at any moment. A clip showing him in a Manchester United shirt has already surfaced on social media.

On Friday, British media captured Santos leaving Carrington in a club car after completing his medical examination, which yielded very positive results. A five-year contract is ready, and he will wear the Manchester United No. 17 jersey, just as he did at Chelsea. It is reported that Santos also met with Manchester United manager Carrick, as the team's coaching staff and players had already returned to Carrington to begin summer training.

The next day, Santos went to Carrington again, but since the transfer had not been officially finalized, he was unable to train. The purpose of this visit might have been to take official photos for his unveiling. He also met several future teammates who had already reported for training, including key Manchester United players such as Maguire and Luke Shaw. Santos could potentially join the full team for training as early as Monday, depending on when United makes the official announcement.

Santos is very confident in his technical abilities and believes that he has made significant progress since moving from Brazilian club Vasco da Gama to Europe.

Santos said: "Now I am more complete. Tactically, I have learned to control myself better, knowing when to press, when to cover, and how to position myself properly on the field. Your technique becomes set at a certain age, but you keep improving in tactics, physicality, and details. The Andre of 2023 is different from the Andre of 2026."

However, Santos' Brazilian compatriot Ederson will not return to Carrington. His second medical examination this week still yielded unsatisfactory results, so Manchester United has canceled the planned £39 million signing.

It is understood that Ederson underwent an initial medical examination in New York, USA, during the World Cup while with the Brazilian national team. However, doctors discovered a potential issue with the meniscus in his right knee. Consequently, the club asked him to undergo another medical in England after the tournament, and the results were the same.

Although neither Manchester United nor Atalanta has officially mentioned this matter, there may never be an official statement, as the two clubs never publicly announced that Ederson's deal had been agreed upon, so there is naturally no need to announce its cancellation. Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano emphasized that the 27-year-old Ederson has been informed of the outcome and has left England, a place of disappointment for him.

Romano added: "Ederson was told he must return to Atalanta because Manchester United decided to abandon the move after further checks. It is said that the condition of his right knee raised concerns at United. Atalanta, on the other hand, believes his physical condition is good and there are no major issues, and they are willing to welcome him back, possibly even offering him a new contract. Ederson has already left England, disappointed that his transfer dream did not come true. He now plans to go on vacation first and then return to the team."

David Ornstein of The Athletic also confirmed the cancellation of the deal. "Indeed, due to Ederson's injury not fully recovering, Manchester United will not sign him. In the past, United have signed players with minor injuries, only for those players to later cause problems for the team, such as Rasmus Højlund, Di María, Falcao, and Ighalo. Is this decision correct? I think so. United have learned their lesson and will not make the same mistake again. Now, United are considering other midfield options, such as Manu Koné."
