OFFICIAL: Coach Shin Tae-yong banned from coaching for 1 year, Indonesian club immediately responds

The Korea Football Association (KFA) issued a one-year suspension for Shin Tae-yong from coaching in South Korea after the Ulsan HD controversy.

The Korea Football Association (KFA) has officially announced a disciplinary sanction against Coach Shin Tae-yong after the incident involving violent behavior towards a player when he was still coaching Ulsan HD. According to the latest decision, the 1970-born tactician is banned from participating in football activities within South Korea for one year.

The incident stems from the brief but turbulent tenure of Coach Shin Tae-yong at Ulsan HD. He was appointed in August 2025 but lasted only about 65 days before being sacked. During this period, the South Korean manager was embroiled in several internal controversies, the most serious of which was the accusation of slapping center-back Jung Seung-hyun in the face.

After the incident was reported, a video allegedly capturing the violent behavior of Coach Shin towards his player spread on social media, sparking a wave of public outrage in South Korea. Although Shin strongly denied the allegations and once stated he would retire if he had insulted a player, the KFA still conducted an independent investigation to clarify the matter.

According to a report from the KFA's Sports Fairness Committee, the one-year penalty was imposed after reviewing allegations related to Shin's conduct during his time at Ulsan HD. The Sports Ethics Center under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism evaluated the violations as "particularly serious", forcing the KFA to convene an emergency meeting to finalize the disciplinary measures.

However, this penalty is still considered much lighter than initial predictions. South Korean media had previously suggested that Shin Tae-yong could face a coaching ban of up to 10 years if found to have committed the most serious violations.

Notably, the KFA's disciplinary action hardly affects Shin's current job at Persija Jakarta. The Indonesian club quickly spoke out to reassure the public after the news of the penalty was announced.

A Persija representative emphasized: "The one-year coaching ban by the KFA is only effective within the jurisdiction of Korean football. Therefore, this decision does not affect Coach Shin Tae-yong's work in Indonesia or his other international activities."

Persija club president Mohammad Prapancha also affirmed that the team continues to support the South Korean strategist: "We respect the KFA's decision but will stand by Coach Shin. The team is fully focused on the President's Cup 2026 and the new season."

After leaving the Indonesian national team, the failure at Ulsan HD, and now the disciplinary action from the KFA, Coach Shin Tae-yong's career continues to go through a turbulent period.
