Manchester United intend to retain 19-year-old prospect Shea Lacey during the initial half of the campaign, evaluating his chances of regular first-team action. Depending on his progress, Carrick will have the option in the winter window to either keep him or arrange a temporary move.

Born in Liverpool, Lacey emerged from Manchester United's academy and is dubbed the 'Red Devils' Phil Foden' due to his playing style similar to City's Foden—a right-sided left-footed inverted winger who can also operate as a number 10. In United's 5-0 win over Norwegian side Rosenborg, he played that role and scored a goal.

Last year, Lacey made his debut under interim manager Darren Fletcher, appearing three times in total. Since Carrick took over, he has only been given one appearance, which came in the final match of the season away at Brighton, when United had already secured Champions League qualification and had little to play for.

However, sources indicate that Carrick also rates Lacey and wants to keep him at the club for evaluation, making a decision in January. United and Lacey's agent plan to reassess his situation in the new season to determine whether staying at the club or a first loan move would be more beneficial for his development.

Lacey's contract with United runs until 2029. After suffering multiple injury setbacks during his youth career, he has remained fit over the past 12 months and performed well.

Of course, he faces a huge challenge on the right wing, as Carrick has Mbeumo and Amad Diallo, making it hard for Lacey to get opportunities. However, last season Mbeumo was often deployed as a striker, so Lacey might have some chances.

As a genuine winger, Lacey can also play on the left flank. If United don't sign a new left winger this summer, he could compete for a spot on that side with Cunha, Patrick Dorgu, and Rashford. The competition there is also intense, making it tough to break through.

Regardless, Carrick is very pleased with the performances of the young academy talents during the pre-season friendlies. He arranged for the club to order pizza delivered to the dressing room to celebrate their success. Carrick was satisfied with the team's display, especially the younger players in the second half, so he allowed them to enjoy pizza before heading to the airport for the return trip. The latest addition is Championship side Middlesbrough, Carrick's former club. Although they are a second-tier team, they might offer the most playing time.

Vitek wants to leave because he is unwilling to be the backup to Sena Ramense at United. Being a number two goalkeeper at a big club means limited appearances, and Vitek has made it clear he wants to go to a team where he can be a starter. He hopes to continue improving through regular game time next season and is open to both loan and permanent moves.

Manchester United would prefer to sell Vitek outright, as his contract has only two years left, making this summer the best opportunity to get a good price. If they loan him out again, they may need the Czech youngster to agree to a contract extension first.
