Are these naturalized players of Indonesia truly formidable?

Boasting more than ten naturalized players, Indonesia's lineup for the 2026 ASEAN Cup is of such quality that rivals are wary.

According to statistics from Tribunnews, the Indonesian team for the 2026 ASEAN Cup includes 26 players, of which 12 are naturalized: Jordi Amat (defender), Sandy Walsh (defender), Justin Hubner (defender), Shayne Pattynama (defender), Tim Geypens (defender), Thom Haye (midfielder), Ivar Jenner (midfielder), Marc Klok (midfielder), Eliano Reijnders (midfielder/winger), Mitchell Baker (midfielder/forward), Ragnar Oratmangoen (forward/winger), and Jens Raven (forward). Among them, two currently play abroad (Justin Hubner and Mitchell Baker), while the remaining ten play domestically. Notably, many of these players previously competed in Europe before moving to Indonesian clubs.

According to the latest information, the participation of Justin Hubner (valued at 1 million euros by Transfermarkt) in the 2026 ASEAN Cup remains uncertain because his club Fortuna Sittard has not yet allowed him to play for the Indonesian national team.

With the aforementioned players, Viva suggests that coach John Herdman may field a starting lineup consisting almost entirely of naturalized or dual-heritage players, except for goalkeeper Nadeo Argawinata. In this lineup, Sandy Walsh and Shayne Pattynama would play on the flanks of the defense, while Jordi Amat and Justin Hubner would be central defenders. If Hubner is unavailable, Indonesia will have to use an alternative.

In midfield, Thom Haye orchestrates play and connects the lines, Marc Klok maintains balance, and Ivar Jenner provides energy and supports transitions. Up front, Ragnar Oratmangoen and Eliano Reijnders are expected to create chances with their speed and dribbling on the wings, while Jens Raven likely leads the attack as the goal scorer. According to Transfermarkt, this expected lineup has a total transfer value of around 115 billion Indonesian rupiah (5.64 million euros).
