Xabi Alonso announces something special about Chelsea's £117 million blockbuster signing

Coach Xabi Alonso is confident that Morgan Rogers won't require a long adjustment period and can instantly impact Chelsea from the opening matchweeks of the upcoming campaign.

Chelsea completed the signing of Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa for a record-breaking fee of £117 million last week. This is the most expensive deal in the history of the Stamford Bridge club, reflecting the enormous expectations the board has placed on the England international.

Having just participated in the World Cup with England, Rogers did not feature in Chelsea's pre-season tour of Australia and Southeast Asia. The 24-year-old has been granted extra rest before reporting to the Cobham training center on August 9th.

The timing of his return means Rogers will only have about two weeks of preparation ahead of Chelsea's Premier League opener away at Fulham. However, before the friendly against Western Sydney Wanderers, Coach Xabi Alonso expressed no concern about the new signing's ability to adapt.

"I believe there are not many better options than Morgan Rogers. I am certain that with his qualities, Morgan won't need too much time to adjust to the club, the system, and his teammates,"Alonso shared.

One of the traits Alonso values most in Rogers is his versatility. The English star can operate in the space behind the striker, function near the number 10, or be deployed on either flank.

At Aston Villa, Rogers consistently impressed with his dribbling, direct runs, and ability to penetrate the penalty area. He can also cut inside from the left wing, creating additional space for overlapping full-backs.

Alonso believes Rogers will quickly establish a common understanding with the attacking players around him, thereby helping Chelsea improve their creativity and generate more routes to goal.

"I think he will build good connections with his teammates. If we can create the right chemistry, that will be a major step forward in the quality of the team's play,"Alonso affirmed.

Alongside Rogers, Alonso also expects the arrival of Maxence Lacroix to add more experience and composure to Chelsea. The French center-back is very close to joining Stamford Bridge after the club reached a £52 million agreement with Crystal Palace.

"We want to build a team capable of competing. Chelsea needs a squad with the right balance of quality and spirit, along with hunger, commitment, and dedication," Alonso emphasized.

A completely new Chelsea is gradually taking shape, with Rogers and Lacroix expected to become key pieces in the ambitious overhaul at Stamford Bridge.
