The FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 is a new national team competition held in the region, directly managed and operated by FIFA. This tournament operates independently of the ASEAN Championship, the familiar Southeast Asian championship organized by the ASEAN Football Federation. According to the plan, the FIFA ASEAN Cup will take place from September 24 to October 3, 2026, coinciding with the FIFA Days period, allowing teams to call up their best squads, including players from foreign clubs. Results from the tournament will also be used to calculate FIFA ranking points based on the coefficient for international matches on the FIFA calendar.

The tournament is not limited to Southeast Asian members; it also features guest teams. In addition to AFF representatives, Pakistan and Hong Kong (China) have been invited to participate. The expansion of the participant list is expected to enhance the professional level, increase competitiveness, and provide Southeast Asian teams with more opportunities to face different football styles.

According to the competition format announced by FIFA, participating teams are divided into two tiers: Division 1 and Division 2. Indonesia has been selected to host all matches in Division 1, while Division 2 competitions will take place in Hong Kong (China).

In Division 1, Vietnam is in Group B together with Thailand, the Philippines, and Pakistan. Group A consists of host Indonesia, India, Malaysia, and Singapore. In Division 2, Hong Kong (China), Myanmar, and Brunei are in Group A, while Group B features Cambodia, Laos, and Timor-Leste.
