Division 2
Division 1
Division 2
The FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 marks a historic milestone as the first tournament for Southeast Asian national teams to be directly managed and operated by FIFA. Unlike the traditional AFF Cup, the tournament takes place during the FIFA Days window from September 24 to October 3, 2026, allowing teams to call up their strongest squads, including players abroad. Notably, all match results count toward the FIFA world rankings.
A notable new feature of the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 is the two-division model, consisting of Division 1 and Division 2. Division 1 has eight teams split into two groups and is played in Indonesia, while Division 2 is held in Hong Kong (China). In addition to Southeast Asian representatives, the tournament features two invited teams, Pakistan and Hong Kong (China), thereby increasing competitiveness and providing more international exposure.
According to the group draw results, the Vietnam national team is placed in Group B of Division 1 alongside Thailand, Philippines, and Pakistan. Group A consists of Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and India. Meanwhile, Division 2 has Group A with Hong Kong (China), Myanmar, and Brunei, and Group B with Cambodia, Laos, and Timor-Leste. Being in the top division, coach Kim Sang Sik and his players will face top regional rivals, with the encounter against Thailand being the highlight of the group stage.
The division split is expected to allow teams of similar levels to compete, improving professional quality and reducing mismatched games. Beyond the goal of achieving results, the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 also holds significant importance in the race to accumulate FIFA ranking points. The detailed schedule and official regulations of the tournament will be announced by FIFA in the coming period.
