Giustozzi reduces the squad, Vietnam futsal heads to a big event in Thailand.

On the morning of July 30, Vietnam's futsal squad traveled to Thailand for the 2026 Continental Championship Friendly, a competition that brings together high-caliber opponents to allow teams to assess their roster and upgrade their professional standards.

Prior to departure, head coach Diego Raul Giustozzi trimmed the squad to 16. The two players left out are Đinh Công Viên and Trần Quang Nguyên, who haven't fully healed from injuries incurred in the 2026 HDBank VĐQG Futsal tournament.

Per the fixture, the competition runs from August 1 to 6 at Nonthaburi Indoor Stadium, featuring five teams: Vietnam, hosts Thailand, Russia, Afghanistan, and New Zealand. They will compete in a single round-robin format to decide the final standings.

This is regarded as a crucial sparring session for Coach Giustozzi and his squad as they gear up for future international objectives.

Facing a series of rivals with diverse skill levels and game styles will allow the coaching team to assess individual players' capabilities and refine the team's tactics and overall approach.

Per the schedule, Vietnam futsal will face Russia on August 1 at 18:00, New Zealand on August 2 at 18:00, Afghanistan on August 3 at 20:30, and host Thailand on August 5 at 20:30 (Vietnam time).

The Intercontinental Championship Friendly in Thailand is anticipated to deliver valuable assessments for Vietnam futsal ahead of upcoming official competitions.
