FIFA officially steps in, Barcelona faces trouble over Julian Alvarez

The transfer of Julian Alvarez continues to develop tensely as Barcelona officially receives notifications from the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and FIFA regarding the complaint previously filed by Atletico Madrid.

According to Marca, the football governing body has opened the phase of receiving statements from the parties. Barcelona is now urgently preparing its response documents before RFEF and FIFA proceed to review the entire case to reach a final conclusion.

The root of the dispute stems from Atletico Madrid's allegation that Barcelona approached Julian Alvarez illegally while the Argentine striker was still under contract with the capital club.

On June 30, Atletico officially filed a complaint with RFEF and FIFA. The management of the Metropolitano club believes that Barcelona violated transfer regulations by contacting Alvarez without the consent of the owning club.

Julian Alvarez currently remains under contract with Atletico Madrid until June 2030. Earlier, CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin stated that the club would use all legal measures to protect its interests, and this assertion was quickly realized with the official complaint.

Despite the legal troubles, Barcelona has not given up on signing Alvarez. President Joan Laporta revealed that the Catalan club had sent an official offer to Atletico Madrid in mid-July to bring the 26-year-old striker to Camp Nou.

However, Atletico firmly refuses to negotiate and insists that Alvarez is not a player for sale in this summer transfer window. According to multiple sources in Spain, Alvarez himself has expressed a desire to seek new challenges after the 2026 World Cup. Nevertheless, Atletico maintains a hardline stance, with no intention of letting the Argentine striker leave.

Date August 10 is considered a key milestone in the deal as Alvarez returns to join Atletico Madrid for pre-season preparations. This could be the moment when the Argentine striker provides a clearer stance on his future. While continuing to pursue Alvarez, Barcelona has also prepared backup options in attack to avoid being caught off guard if this deal falls through.
