Argentina Coach Finalizes Vietnam Futsal Squad for 'Mini' World Cup

Head coach Diego Raul Giustozzi has reduced the Vietnam futsal team's squad to 16 players ahead of their journey to the 2026 Intercontinental Championship – Thailand friendly tournament.

On the morning of July 30, the Vietnam futsal team departed for Thailand to compete in the 2026 Intercontinental Championship – Thailand friendly tournament, scheduled from August 1 to 6 at Nonthaburi Gymnasium. As assigned by the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), Mr. Tran Anh Minh – a member of the VFF Executive Committee – will serve as the head of the delegation for the Vietnam futsal team at the tournament.

Before departure, Head coach Diego Raul Giustozzi had already finalized a 16-player list. Two players unable to join the team are Dinh Cong Vien and Tran Quang Nguyen, as they have not yet recovered from injuries sustained during the 2026 HDBank National Futsal Championship.

At the 2026 Intercontinental Championship – Thailand, the Vietnam futsal team will face Russia (August 1), New Zealand (August 2), Afghanistan (August 3), and host nation Thailand (August 5). The tournament features five teams competing in a single round-robin format, with points determining the final standings.

This is a high-quality international tournament that brings together many strong opponents, considered a crucial opportunity for Coach Diego Raul Giustozzi to test his squad and refine the team's playing style, as well as to give young players the chance to gain international experience, aiming for the important goals of the Vietnam futsal team in the near future.

Alongside familiar key players such as goalkeepers Ho Van Y, Pham Van Tu, fixo Nhan Gia Hung, ala players Chau Doan Phat, Tran Thai Huy, Tu Minh Quang, and pivots Nguyen Thinh Phat and Nguyen Da Hai, this roster also features several promising young faces.

In the fixo position, Nguyen Trong Kien continues to be given the opportunity following a successful season with Thai Son Bac. This player recently played a key role in helping his club win the 2026 HDBank National Futsal Championship, ending a 16-year wait. In the decisive match against Tan Hiep Hung HCMC, Trong Kien scored in the 38th minute, contributing to a 6-0 victory that secured Thai Son Bac's first-ever title.

Another young talent from Thai Son Bac, Nguyen Nhan Nam, is also making his debut appearance. Besides winning the 2026 HDBank National Futsal Championship, Nhan Nam was a standout figure in helping Thai Son Bac's youth team claim the 2025 National U20 Futsal Championship. This player is highly regarded for his individual technique, intelligent game sense, and effective dribbling and diagonal finishing ability.
