Chelsea officially signs French national team star who featured in the 2026 World Cup

The Blues have officially confirmed the acquisition of Maxence Lacroix from Crystal Palace, continuing to bolster their backline before the upcoming campaign.

The 26-year-old French center-back joins the Stamford Bridge side for a transfer fee of around £52 million and has signed a contract running until 2032.

Lacroix is currently on vacation after representing France at the 2026 World Cup. Therefore, it remains unclear whether he will take part in Chelsea's pre-season tour or continue resting before returning to the Cobham training center to prepare for the new season.

If all goes well, the friendly match against Real Sociedad at Stamford Bridge could be the first time fans see Lacroix wearing the Blues' jersey.

Speaking on the club's official website, the French newcomer did not hide his excitement about joining the London club.

"I am truly happy to become part of this great club. Everyone knows Chelsea is a team with rich tradition, always aiming for victory. Being a part of the club's history is a huge pride for me."

"When I spoke with the head coach, I realized we share the same vision and ambition. We both want to win. Looking at the current squad quality and the conditions the club possesses, I believe Chelsea can absolutely achieve big goals. Our ambition is to win titles, and I can't wait to contribute to that success," Lacroix asserted.

Before moving to England, Lacroix spent several years playing for Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga before joining Crystal Palace. He quickly made a name for himself thanks to his pace, ideal physique, and strong tackling ability.

At 26, the French center-back is considered to be entering the peak of his career. Having prior experience in the Premier League also helps him adapt quickly to the new environment. Chelsea expects Lacroix to become a key figure in their plans to compete for trophies in the coming seasons.
