Maguire will stay at Manchester United as the fourth centre-back! Willing to play substitutes and other opportunities, Yoro is afraid of a lot of injuries

Despite the signing of two new centre-backs this summer· Leoni and Yoro and Mattheis · De Ligt, £80million defender Harry Maguire is determined to stay at Old Trafford and fight for his place in the squad, even if he may be relegated to the bench. His decision paid off at the start of the season, as he started the first round of the Premier League ahead of the newly signed De Ligt and performed well, although he faked a fall in the first half, but successfully intercepted a key pass from Fulham heart Andreas · Pereira in the second half.

Maguire was originally dropped by Ten Hag last season, but with a succession of injuries to rivals, he became the team's most capped centre-back. After the new signing, Maguire has encountered a similar situation and will face stiffer competition.

But Maguire knows that in the Manchester United defence, the quality issues, managerial preferences or technical and tactical aspects are secondary, and staying healthy first has the most chances. For example, 18-year-old Yoro was out for three months with a metatarsal fracture and a serious injury. At the same time, although De Ligt is a descendant of Ten Hag, he may still need time to settle into the team.

United may think Lisandro · Martinez, Joro and De Ligt could be the best centre-backs of the future, rivalling any team in the Premier League. The Athletic reported that when Manchester United signed Joro, a medical examination showed that he may have metatarsal problems. Still, the executives insisted on signing him because they were convinced that he would become United's top player for the next decade. This was seen as a rare opportunity, as the opportunity to cut off Real Madrid doesn't come up very often, so the club spent 62 million euros, and even up to 70 million euros.

Manchester United have been cautious in their handling of Joro, who has only played 50 per cent of his training sessions. However, in his second game for the Red Devils, Yoro fractured the outside of the fifth metatarsal in his left foot. He underwent surgery on his return to United Kingdom and is estimated to require three months of recovery, with a real absence likely to be longer as the club dare not risk it. And, in any case, Manchester United did not expect Joro to play in the Premier League, so they chose to continue to sign De Ligt.

But in addition to the injured Yoro, Lima and De Ligt also had a number of injuries last season. This could open the door for Harry Maguire to reinvigorate his Manchester United career. According to talkSPORT Radio, Harry Maguire is likely to be Ten Hag's fourth choice at centre-back, but he is ready to be patient and has no plans to leave the club at the moment.

Maguire is said to be confident he will get his chance under Ten Hag and prove himself to be a key member of the squad. Even after Joro joined Manchester United, Harry Maguire warned fans not to expect too much from the youngster, insisting he has an important role to play in supporting the young players in the squad.

Maguire said: "I have to emphasise that I haven't trained with him too much. But I've watched some videos and I've seen the qualities that everyone wants in the 18-year-old centre-back, and every single one of those qualities in him is good. However, we have to remind ourselves that he is still very young. He's going to make mistakes, but he's got all the attributes of a centre-back in a modern game, so I'm sure his future is bright. Our job as a senior centre-back, and my job, is to help him, communicate well and let him know what to expect. I'm sure there will be times when he feels like the whole world is above him, and there are times when he feels like he's the best player in the world, and that's what this club brings to him."

Maguire added that United need to be younger, but also not lacking in experience. 'I think it's really important for us senior players to help the young players in the club and you are now starting to see a lot of talented players in this team, but they need to be guided in the right direction and I think that's definitely my responsibility and that of other senior players.'

Maguire has made 207 appearances for United since joining from Leicester City in 2019 and lost the captain's armband this time last year but has remained stoic and proven himself, saving Ten Hag's position on multiple occasions.

Interestingly, United's other centre-back, Victor Lindelof, has similar sentiments to Harry Maguire. The club wanted to "force" him to move, but the Sweden Iceman, who had only one year left on his contract, preferred to stay at the club. He enjoys a £120,000-a-week salary at the Red Devils, and even if he doesn't make it this year, the 30-year-old Sweden captain can move for free when his contract expires next year, which would also get a better contract and signing fee.
