Manchester United officially announced on Sunday that Netherlands striker Joshua · Zirkze has completed his transfer. The 23-year-old joined from Bologna in Serie A and the club paid €42.5 million (£36.5 million) over three years. The player is signed for five years with the right of first refusal for one year, and his annual salary is said to be 5 million euros.

Zirkze passed a medical on Saturday and signed his name with his left hand on United's contract on Sunday and wore the red shirt at home for the new season. The new signing has since promised Red Devils fans that he will make an "immediate" impact for the team.
'After discussions with the manager and the club's hierarchy, I know how exciting the future is here and I can't wait to play my part.' Revealing why he chose Manchester United, Zirkze said: "I am a player who always gives everything to win. I'm ready for the next challenge, reaching another level in my career and winning more trophies."
Now, Zirkze will enter the post-European holidays and is not expected to officially join the team until next month. He said: "It is an honour to join such an iconic club. I have to take some rest now after the international game, but I'll be back right away and ready to play."
Manchester United's new sporting director, Dan · Ashworth, stressed that bringing in a world-class striker was the focus of the summer window, so Zilkze became the first signing of the summer. 'We are delighted to be able to sign a player of Joshua's [Zirkze] quality so early in the transfer window, and his ability and desire to develop into a world-class player means he will be a great addition.'
Zirkze, who came through the Eredivisie Feyenoord academy, joined Bayern Munich in 2017 for €150,000 in compensation, but scored four goals in just 17 appearances. He was loaned out to Parma and Anderlecht, where he attracted Bologna's interest with 18 goals. The biggest winners are Bayern, who will receive a share of 19.125 million euros, plus the 8.5 million euros they received when they sold him to Bologna. Bologna's net profit was around 15 million euros.

After signing Zirkze, United will focus on completing a deal to bring in another Netherlands international from Bayern Munich De Ligt. As for United's other rumoured striker signings, such as Brentford's England centre-forward Ivan · Toney, he has not yet been seen as a realistic target for the summer window. Manchester United will need to make sure they succeed in selling players and getting enough money if they want to buy a new striker.
The 28-year-old has been rumoured to be with a number of big clubs in the past year, with only one year left on his contract and no negotiations between the two sides to renew his contract. That includes Manchester United, but the Daily Mail stresses that the Red Devils don't think it's realistic to buy Tony at this stage because the club's summer net transfer spending budget is not high. With the arrival of Zirkze, United have no plans to buy any more centre-forwards unless they can sell a number of existing strikers.
That excludes Mason · Greenwood, whose £27million offer from Ligue 1 Marseille has been accepted by Manchester United and a move is up to the player's decision. Manchester United strikers Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Facundo · Pellistri and others are also rumoured players who could be sold.
If they want to buy another player like Toney, United will need to successfully sell Jadon Sancho or even Marcus Rashford first, but that is unlikely to happen this summer.
Recent rumours have suggested Manchester United are also interested in signing Netherlands attacker Xavi · Simons on loan, with the club yet to finalise plans for the 21-year-old. He scored against England in Wednesday's Euro 2024 semi-finals, with Simmons, currently playing for Paris Saint-Germain, more likely to move to Germany, RB Leipzig, who loaned him last season, and Bayern Munich are all interested.

Simmons also commented on Zirkze's transfer, and he didn't speak, only posting three heart emojis. Although it is easy to think that he may join Manchester United, it is only because both are Netherlands internationals who have just played together in the European Championship.
