Postecoglou is not the first person to leave after winning the European championship

Written by Han Bing From lifting the Europa League trophy in Bilbao on May 21 to the official announcement of Postecoglou's dismissal on June 6, Tottenham chairman Levy struggled for 16 days, but in the end he still suffered the killer. But the seemingly unsuspenseful result still caused an uproar when the dust settled.

Postecoglou had just returned from a holiday in Greece and was ironically told that he had been sacked on Tottenham's second anniversary. During a Champions Parade two weeks ago, he had said that his third season in charge of Tottenham would be better than the second like the third season of the classic series. But Ousmane Díaz has brought the third season of the classic American drama "Breaking Bad" to the top, and Postecoglou has been denied the opportunity for a third season.

Tottenham players sided with the coach, with British media claiming that the players were "very angry" at the dismissal of the European champion's manager, after all, he led the team to their first trophy in 17 years and the first European trophy in 41 years. As the late Tottenham legend Nicholson said: "For Tottenham, the title is more important than a consistent and mediocre league position, and the former is the highlight of a lifetime. "Tottenham players believe that the team's poor performance last season, the large number of injuries in the defence were an important reason, and the coach should not be the only one to take the blame. Many players have paid their respects on their social media, with some hinting that they would consider leaving Tottenham in the summer.

But Levy didn't think so, and after a 4-1 defeat to Brighton in the final round of the Premier League, he held a crisis meeting overnight. He then flew to the Bahamas in the Caribbean, where he met with members of the Lewis family, the majority shareholder, and eventually fired the Australian coach on the grounds that the league performance was too poor. The Tottenham hierarchy are also said to have learned the lesson of United's failure to sack the manager in time after Ten Hag's FA Cup triumph.

Postecoglou is not the first to win a European trophy but leave the class - in 1997/98, Heynckes led Real Madrid to a Champions League trophy after a 32-year absence, and it was also the first European trophy to be won in 10 years after the 1985/86 UEFA Cup. However, he was sacked after eight days of winning the title, and then-president Sanz said that the La Liga title defense failed, and the main reason was that he was 11 points behind Barcelona and ranked fourth.

Years later, however, Sanz revealed that the real reason was that Heynckes had called him before the Champions League final, saying that he was "fed up with the team" and insulting the players.

In the 1995/96 season, Fernandez, who won the European Cup Winners' Cup for Paris Saint-Germain, was also fired due to his poor record in Ligue 1. At the winter break, PSG were more than 10 points ahead of second place, but were eventually beaten by Auxerre to win the title. Although he became the second French team to win a European title since Marseille in 1993, he still lost his position.

In the 1989/90 season, Zoff led Juventus to the Coppa Italia and the first "Italian Civil War" version of the League Cup, but the Bianconeri finished third in Serie A. The celebration banquet hosted by the chairman of the club, Ciusano, did not notify Zov to attend. In the end, Zoff took the initiative to hang the crown and did not have any communication with his boss Agnelli.

However, Zoff, Fernandes and Heynckes were all in the top four at the time, and Postecoglou was more like Inter Milan coach Marini in 1993/94, who won the UEFA Cup but Inter finished 13th in Serie A and were relegated in the final round, just one point above the relegation zone.

Last season, Tottenham finished 17th in the Premier League, their worst ranking since 1976/77 (22nd). Tottenham have lost 22 of their 38 league games, tying the record for the most league games lost in a single season (1934/35) and the worst in 143 league seasons in team history.

Postecoglou is history, but Tottenham's change of manager is also very costly. In addition to the £6 million compensation for the old boss and the £2 million bonus for winning the title, the new boss favourite Frank also has a £10 million release clause. Tottenham prioritises coaches with a good coaching resume in the Premier League, with Frank [Brentford] the favourite.

However, the Portuguese newspaper Record believes that Marco Silva (Fulham) is more likely and Elora (Bournemouth) is also mentioned in the media. Not surprisingly, Tottenham will finalise a new manager before the international break ends.
