Newcastle has finalized their first significant signing of the summer, securing Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga for an estimated fee of £55 million.

The Swedish international began his career with Manchester United before moving to Forest and becoming an essential player in their ascent to European football last season.

Elanga achieved an impressive tally of six goals and 11 assists as Forest secured seventh place in the Premier League.

He joins Newcastle with the aim of establishing himself in the right wing position, as the Magpies have faced challenges with depth in that area recently.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe stated on the club's website: "I’m thrilled to welcome Anthony to Newcastle United. He has been a primary target for us, and I’m pleased to secure him at this early stage of pre-season.

"He is an exciting talent with qualities that make him a distinctive attacking asset. His speed, energy, and capability to create and score goals will enhance our squad and align with our playing style.

"Anthony is eager to further his development with us and achieve success here, and we’re all looking forward to collaborating with him."

Elanga expressed: "I’m thrilled, I’m very happy, but most importantly, I’m prepared. I’m ready to wear this black and white jersey and give my all for this team and the passionate fanbase that lives and breathes football.

"I had a fantastic two years at Nottingham Forest; they truly helped me become the player I am today, but I’m really pleased to be here now.

"The club won a trophy last season and is building something unique, something special that I genuinely want to be a part of.

"I’m eager to embrace the culture and the DNA of this club. I’m really happy to be here, and I can’t wait to get started."

Elanga made 82 appearances in all competitions for Forest and previously played 55 matches for Manchester United, also earning 22 caps for the Swedish national team.

His first competitive match in Black and White could be in their Premier League opener against Aston Villa.
