Massimiliano Allegri declared on Monday his commitment to revive AC Milan's past glory as he returned as manager for a second term with the struggling Italian club.

The Rossoneri had turned to the experienced Allegri after the club suffered its worst league finish in ten years, leading to Sergio Conceicao's dismissal after five disappointing months in charge.

"The objective for this season is to return to the Champions League, as a club like AC Milan must compete in Europe," Allegri informed reporters in Singapore, where his team is set to play Arsenal on Wednesday in a pre-season friendly.

"This is my primary goal from the outset. These are the matches the team thrives on. We won't dwell on the past; instead, we are focusing on the future now," added the 57-year-old Italian.

Milan concluded the 2024/25 season in eighth place, failing to qualify for Europe, and fell short in the Coppa Italia final against Bologna.

Following this, Allegri was appointed to replace Conceicao at the club, where he previously served as manager from 2010 to 2014.

Allegri secured the Scudetto in his first season at Milan, marking the club's first title since 2004, before enjoying a successful tenure at Juventus, where he won five consecutive Serie A titles.

"It has been over a decade since I first took charge of Milan. The context is clearly different now. Much has changed, not just in Milan but in football as a whole," he remarked.

"Yet the ultimate goal remains unchanged: to bring this club back to its rightful place, which is the Champions League," said Allegri.

He mentioned that he will rely on the recent acquisition of Luka Modric from Real Madrid to help restore Milan's status among Europe's elite, where they are seven-time European champions.

At 39, the 2018 Ballon d'Or winner still has much to contribute, and Allegri will depend on his extensive experience and leadership to motivate the team.

"Modric is a recognized champion who requires no introduction. He is a role model not only in terms of discipline but also from a technical standpoint," said Allegri.
