Allsvenskan frontrunners Mjallby have not only preserved their four-point advantage at the top of the standings, but have also inflicted significant damage on one of their title contenders by defeating third-placed AIK 2-0. Meanwhile, second-placed Hammarby has kept the gap from widening, as they rallied from behind to overcome Brommapojkarna.

Mjallby were maintaining an eight-match unbeaten streak in the league as they welcomed an erratic AIK to Hallevik, aware that only two points would separate them if the visitors ended that streak.

The first half featured few opportunities, and the best chance fell to the hosts' Alexander Johansson, who chased down a long ball, flicked it over the defender's head, and struck the crossbar.

Ten minutes after the break, the leaders broke the deadlock thanks to a stroke of luck - a free-kick from the right by Elliot Stroud was heading wide before it deflected off Johan Hove in the wall and sailed into the net.

Mjallby hit the woodwork again and squandered several clear chances before finally securing a well-deserved three points seven minutes from the end - a ball into the penalty area was not dealt with by the AIK defense, allowing Ludvig Tidstrand to seize the opportunity and score with a shot into the roof of the net.

The victory brings Mjallby to 40 points, eight ahead of AIK, who suffered their third defeat in the last five league matches.

Mjallby's weekend appeared to be improving even further later on Sunday, as Brommapojkarna went 2-0 ahead against Hammarby.

Both BP goals came late in the first half, thanks to Adam Jakobsen, who finished off Victor Lind's free-kick in the 43rd minute and then burst into the box to score his second in stoppage time.

However, after making four substitutions at halftime, Hammarby made a strong comeback in the second half, reducing the deficit within nine minutes of the restart when BP failed to clear a cross and Nahir Besara was there to nod it in.

The pressure on the visitors was palpable, as a corner for Bajen in the 72nd minute was inadvertently turned into his own net by Kevin Ackermann to equalize. Four minutes later, the turnaround was complete - a blocked shot fell favorably for Montader Madjed, who fired in the winning goal.

The pivotal 3-2 victory keeps Hammarby within four points of Mjallby, while BP's three-match winning streak ended dramatically, dropping them to 10th place.

Malmo is now closing in on AIK, having gone five league matches unbeaten by defeating Oster 2-0 away from home, now sitting two points behind the Solna team.

Otto Rosengren scored the opener midway through the first half and then assisted the second goal midway through the second for Sead Haksabanovic. Oster remains in the relegation zone after three consecutive losses.

The champions have surpassed Elfsborg in the standings, while Djurgarden was the team to pass BP, as August Priske's early goal was sufficient for the Iron Stoves to win1-0 at home.

One goal was all Goteborg needed as well, as they defeated Sirius for the second time this month. David Kruse's shot just before the hour mark proved decisive, keeping Goteborg in seventh place while Sirius suffered their third consecutive defeat.

However, the team from Uppsala remains above the bottom three, thanks to Degerfors, who were defeated for the seventh time in a row, this time 3-0 at home to GAIS.

Matteo de Brienne and Ibrahim Diabate were on the scoresheet for the visitors, either side of a Juhani Pikkarainen own goal, taking GAIS to sixth place and marking their ninth match without defeat.

Halmstad and Hacken occupy 12th and 8th places, respectively, after the two teams played out a goalless draw, extending the visitors' unbeaten streak to three games.

Round 16 concluded on Monday evening as Varnamo failed to capitalize on their first win of the season, suffering their 11th defeat, 3-1 away to Norrkoping.

Christoffer Nyman took less than three minutes to score for the hosts, but that was equalized early in the second half by Hugo Andersson.

However, no sooner had Varnamo equalized than they conceded twice in the next seven minutes - Arnor Traustason put Norrkoping back in front before Nyman netted his second to secure a first win since mid-May.
