On July 25, Beijing time, the World Women’s Volleyball League wrapped up two quarterfinal matches. The Japanese women’s team held up against tremendous pressure, defeating Turkey 3-2, while the Brazilian women’s team dominated with a 3-0 victory over Germany. Consequently, the top four teams of this tournament have emerged, with the semifinals confirmed: Italy facing Poland in a European battle, and Japan from Asia going up against Brazil from South America, while the Chinese women’s team was knocked out by the host team, Poland!
Japan faced Turkey in the match. The Japanese team was a carefully chosen opponent for Turkey, but Turkey failed to showcase their strengths against Japan, committing numerous errors and unable to execute their advantageous attacks. In contrast, the Japanese team coordinated exceptionally well, focusing on quick and agile plays, even though they allowed Turkey to tie the match at 2-2, forcing a decisive set. In the final set, Japan unleashed their full strength, decisively defeating Turkey 15-9, delivering a shocking 3-2 upset that sent the reigning 2023 World League champions, Turkey, home!
Brazil took on Germany in their match. The Brazilian women’s team is a world powerhouse and has performed spectacularly in this tournament, losing only once and finishing second. Their strong performance is only surpassed by Italy. In the quarterfinals, they faced Germany, a second-tier European team, and due to the significant gap in strength, Brazil was almost guaranteed victory. After a back-and-forth battle in the first set, Brazil found their rhythm, and Germany struggled to keep up with the fast pace, allowing Brazil to dominate and win 25-19. The second set saw intense competition, with both teams exchanging points until it came down to crucial plays, where Brazil’s experience shone through, winning 26-24 and leading 2-0. In the third set, Germany’s mindset faltered after falling behind, leading to numerous errors, while Brazil played more confidently, crushing Germany 25-14 and sweeping the match 3-0, forcefully advancing to the semifinals!
In the two matches concluded yesterday, the world’s top-ranked Italian women’s team also won decisively, sweeping the American team 3-0 and achieving their 13th consecutive victory. Meanwhile, the Chinese women’s team fought hard for five sets but fell short due to issues with their setter and libero, ultimately losing 2-3 to Poland and being eliminated!
