Written by Zuo Rui On the morning of the 26th, during the semifinals of the potential group of the second "Centennial Famous School Cup" football elite exchange competition, two teams that had lost all four previous matches and had not scored met. Ultimately, Xilin South Road Primary School from Hohhot's Saihan District triumphed over Jiulong Primary School from Anyuan County, Ganzhou City, Jiangxi, with a score of 4-0, fulfilling their goal of "scoring and winning" in the tournament.
This team from Inner Mongolia is the youngest in this exchange competition, with most players being second and third graders. Although their opponents had an age advantage, they had never played eight-a-side football before heading to Qidong. In the first half, Xilin South Road Primary School, with better positioning and more stamina, showed greater confidence and took the initiative on the field. After missing a great scoring opportunity, in the 24th minute, they seized a chance to shoot following a steal in the front. The youngest player on the field, number 66 Wang Yicheng, seemed not to have fully mastered the technique of shooting with his weaker left foot, so he used the outside of his right foot to score, netting the team's first goal in this exchange competition.
When the goal was scored, the substitutes erupted in cheers. Team leader Zhang Guozhong exclaimed happily, "Mission accomplished, we scored!" At halftime, Wang Yicheng received congratulations from his teammates and praise from head coach Yan Mantong. As usual, after receiving a cooling spray service from the team leader, the kids sat on benches listening to the coach's halftime summary and instructions for the remainder of the match.
In the second half, the leading team became more confident, while the substitutions made by the trailing team did not prove effective. Five minutes later, number 25 Sun Peijie extended the lead to 2-0. With ten minutes remaining in the match, Xilin South Road Primary School scored two more goals, finalizing the score at 4-0. At the end of the match, the substitutes burst into a chorus of "We finally won!"
After the match, Yan Mantong, the only female head coach in this exchange competition, introduced that the Xilin South Road Primary School in Hohhot, where she teaches, started its campus football program relatively early. After officially launching team building in 2020, the school won a championship in the "Chairman's Cup" for primary schools at the autonomous region level, which holds similar weight to the "Governor's Cup" elsewhere. Since the upper-grade school team had other competition commitments at the same time, she brought the younger children to Qidong for training and learning.
"This match allowed us to achieve all our goals of scoring, getting points, and winning!" said team leader Zhang Guozhong. In the upcoming finals day, they will compete against Kunming Shulin No. 2 Primary School for the 13th and 14th place ranking, the latter having defeated Chongqing Nankai Primary School 2-0 in another semifinal of the potential group that concluded simultaneously.
