Leicester initiated their pursuit for an immediate return to the Premier League by securing a 2-1 home win against the troubled Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday, following protests from the visitors' fans against Owls owner Dejphon Chansiri.

Wednesday are facing multiple English Football League embargoes due to various financial violations, with player and staff wages delayed for the last three months.

Owls supporters expressed their discontent towards Thai businessman Chansiri by delaying their entrance to their seats, and the away section was vacant as players entered the pitch at the King Power Stadium, displaying a banner that read "SWFC for sale - enough is enough".

Wednesday had only 15 senior players available before their opening Championship match but still managed a determined performance against the Foxes, who required a late goal to secure all three points. after their opponents were reduced to ten players.

After the initial five minutes, Wednesday fans entered the stadium and received applause from Leicester supporters.

Despite their numerous off-field issues, Nathaniel Chalobah put Wednesday in the lead midway through the first half with a deflected shot from the edge of the area.

Jannik Vestergaard, however, equalized in the 54th minute when a free-kick from Bilal El Khannouss went past everyone in the box before he struck it high into the net.

Wednesday's challenge became significantly tougher when captain Barry Bannan, already cautioned for dissent, received a red card for a late tackle on Harry Winks with 14 minutes remaining.

And with just three minutes left in regular time, Leicester capitalized on their numerical advantage when substitute Wout Faes scored with a header from a corner.
