Tough battles right from the first round! The Chinese team’s luck in the US Open draw is truly unfortunate.

With the conclusion of the 2025 US Open singles qualifying rounds, the main draw for the singles event has now been fully released. Among the Chinese players drawing attention, Zhang Shuai and Wang Xiyu are the only two qualifiers who won three consecutive matches to reach the main draw.

Zhang Shuai and Wei Sijia met in the final round of the women’s singles qualifying, where the more experienced Zhang Shuai dominated with a 6-1, 6-3 victory, advancing to a Grand Slam main draw after winning three straight qualifying matches for the first time in 17 years.

This marks Zhang Shuai’s 12th time entering the US Open main draw in her career, with her best previous result being the fourth round in 2022; last year, she was eliminated early in the first round.

Former US Open junior women’s singles champion Wang Xiyu also triumphed, defeating Charaeva in three sets 6-4, 4-6, 6-2. This is her fifth appearance in the US Open main draw. Due to a lengthy injury break after the Australian Open this year, Wang’s world ranking dropped noticeably, causing her to miss out on breakthroughs at both the French Open and Wimbledon.

After Sun Fajing was eliminated in the second round, Wu Yibing, the last male qualifier, faced Kym in the final round but was swept 6-3, 6-2. Throughout the match, Wu’s opponent was flawless both in serving and forehand shots, and his backhand play was also impressive in the later stages, taking the suspense out of the match early on.

According to his schedule, Wu Yibing will rest for a week before starting the Asian season, with his next tournament being the Shanghai CH100. We look forward to Wu earning more points during the Asian swing.

With the main draw now finalized, the Chinese team’s overall draw luck can only be described as “terrible.” In women’s singles, Wang Yafan and Yuan Yue drew seeded players in the first round early on; Wang Yafan will face the 10th seed and local favorite Navarro, while Yuan Yue will be opposite the 17th seed Samsonova across the net.

Among the qualifiers, Zhang Shuai and Wang Xiyu also drew strong seeded opponents: Zhang will face the 16th seed Bencic in the first round, and Wang’s opening match is against the 25th seed Ostapenko.

Although Zhu Lin and Wang Xinyu did not draw seeded players, their first-round opponents are still formidable. Zhu Lin will face Potapova in the first round, and if she advances, she will compete for a third-round spot against the winner between Parks and the 5th seed Andreescu.

Wang Xinyu’s first-round opponent is local player Dolehide; if she wins, she will face the winner between the 13th seed Aleksandrova and Sevastova in the second round.

The men’s singles draw is equally challenging. Bu Yunchaokete’s first-round opponent is wildcard Varuj; if he advances, he could face the 27th seed Shapovalov in the second round. Shang Juncheng, if he beats Berrettini in the first round, may face the 2nd seed Alcaraz next.

So, who do you think among the Chinese singles players competing at this US Open will be able to secure match wins?(Source: Tennis Home, Author: Barbie)
