Djokovic announces he is tired of the Masters 1000 tournaments

Novak Djokovic skipped all ATP 1000 tournaments before the start of the 2025 US Open, the last Grand Slam of the season.

Before the 2025 US Open, Novak Djokovic made notable comments admitting he has lost enthusiasm for the new format of the Masters 1000 events. The world No. 7 believes that the two-week duration of these tournaments has somewhat limited his playing schedule this year.

In early July, Djokovic was defeated by Jannik Sinner in three sets during the Wimbledon semifinals. Since then, he has not returned to competition, missing both key Masters events in Toronto and Cincinnati. So far this season, the 38-year-old player has only competed in 9 tournaments, with a record of 26 wins and 9 losses, which is relatively low compared to previous years.

In recent years, many Masters 1000 tournaments have shifted their schedules, extending to two weeks instead of one. Currently, only Monte Carlo and the Paris Masters maintain the traditional one-week format. However, this change has caused Djokovic to lose interest. He has only participated in Monte Carlo and Madrid out of the seven Masters tournaments held so far this year.

"Honestly, I no longer enjoy the two-week Masters tournaments. They are too lengthy for me. I focus more on the Grand Slam events, and I have stated this before.", Djokovic shared ahead of this year’s US Open. Nole also emphasized that he is no longer chasing points, defending titles, or competing for ATP ranking positions, but instead prioritizes only the most important tournaments.

Additionally, the Serbian player admitted that playing less recently has caused him to lose some match sharpness. However, the Grand Slam record holder affirmed that he has been training very seriously in recent weeks to prepare for his campaign at Flushing Meadows.

"I know I lack the match rhythm from official games, but I have been working hard in training and hope that will be enough to get back into the flow.", Djokovic added.
