US Open prize money surges, mixed doubles draw massive attention
The 2025 US Open reached a historic peak with a total prize fund of $90 million, becoming the first tennis event to surpass this milestone, marking a 20% increase over the $75 million in 2024. Multiple prize categories saw breakthrough adjustments: singles champions each received $5 million, a 39% rise year-on-year, setting a new record for the highest single prize in tennis, while maintaining equal pay for men and women throughout; guaranteed earnings for first-round singles players rose to $110,000, with double-digit increases across all rounds, significantly enhancing player income.

Doubles events also enjoyed upgraded rewards: total prize money for men’s and women’s doubles increased from $3.89 million in 2024 to $4.78 million, a 23% rise; notably, for the first time, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles champions each earned $1 million, completely eliminating the previous disparity in mixed doubles prize money.
The revolutionary reform of the mixed doubles format—held earlier during the singles qualifying week and with adjusted entry quotas—successfully attracted many top singles players crossing over: Rolex ambassadors Alcaraz, Swiatek, Mira Andreeva, Shelton, as well as Grand Slam champions Djokovic, Naomi Osaka, Leylah Fernandez, Raducanu gathered. The two-day event drew 78,000 spectators, with Arthur Ashe Stadium tickets sold out, achieving both high attendance and commercial success. Ultimately, the Italian duo Errani/Vavassori defeated Swiatek/Ruud 6-3, 5-7, 10-6 to defend their mixed doubles title.

Men’s singles: favorites comfortably reach round of 32, Hong Kong player makes history
In men’s singles, defending champion and Rolex ambassador Sinner demonstrated hard-court dominance, dropping only 11 games in the first two rounds to advance strongly into the round of 32, continuing his 23-match winning streak at hard-court Grand Slams as world number one. He will face 27th seed Shapovalov in the third round. Although 5th seed Draper withdrew due to injury from the quarter section, strong contenders like Musetti and Bublyk still pose challenges to Sinner.

In the second quarter, 3rd seed Zverev and 8th seed De Minaur advanced smoothly, set to face Aliassime and Altmaier respectively in round three; 9th seed Khachanov was upset early. Notably, qualifier Wong Ze-lin reached the Grand Slam round of 32 for the first time, making history for Hong Kong tennis, and will challenge 15th seed Rublev in the third round.
The third quarter saw fierce competition: last year’s finalist and Rolex ambassador Fritz faced some tests but secured his fourth consecutive round of 32 appearance, set to play qualifier Kimm for a spot in the last 16. Serbian star Djokovic continued his legendary run—advancing to at least the round of 32 in all 19 US Opens he has played, holding the record with his 75th Grand Slam round of 32 appearance. He will meet British player Norrie in the third round.

He will face 32nd seed Darderi in the third round. If he advances to the quarterfinals, a high-profile clash with newly crowned Masters champion and fellow Rolex ambassador Shelton is possible; Shelton also won his first two rounds without dropping a set and will play French veteran Mannarino in round three.

Women’s singles: defending champion leads, thrilling matchups imminent
The women’s singles event is progressing steadily, with defending champion Sabalenka cruising through the first two rounds and improving her tiebreak record this season to an impressive 19-1. She will face former finalist Fernandez in the third round. Two key quarterfinal clashes to watch include Leylah Fernandez versus Raducanu, a Grand Slam champion showdown, and 7th seed Paolini taking on former Wimbledon champion Vondrousova.
In the second quarter, Rolex ambassador Mira Andreeva impressed by losing only five games in two rounds, reaching her first US Open round of 32, where she will face local player Townsend. Her potential quarterfinal opponent, 4th seed Pegula, will meet former world number one Azarenka in the third round. Another exciting match between former Wimbledon champion Krejcikova and 10th seed Navarro will decide a spot in the last 16.

In the fourth quarter, 2nd seed and Rolex ambassador Swiatek maintained consistent form, reaching the round of 32 in 23 consecutive Grand Slam appearances. She will face 29th seed Kalinskaya in the third round. If she progresses further, a rematch of this year’s Wimbledon women’s final against 8th seed Anisimova could recreate a peak showdown.
