In the early hours today, Anisimova shocked the tennis world by beating six-time Grand Slam winner Swiatek 6-4, 6-3 in the US Open women's singles quarterfinals, marking her first time advancing to the US Open semifinals. Two months earlier, in the Wimbledon final, she was soundly defeated 0-6, 0-6 by Swiatek.

After the match, Anisimova said, "The atmosphere today was completely different from any other match, whether here or in my entire career. I truly worked hard to maintain the right mindset, especially in the last 24 hours, where I prepared more mentally than physically. I’m very happy to have been able to compete and perform so well in this state."
Despite her big win at Wimbledon, Swiatek was aware before the match that her opponent was well-prepared. The Polish star said, "I think everyone knows Amanda (Anisimova) is a strong player. Although she didn’t perform well at Wimbledon, she can’t keep making the same mistakes or stay in the same form forever. I know she’s a great player capable of excellent tennis, so I was ready for a tough battle."
"This result is not surprising. I have trained with her and know her abilities well. Today, she was a completely different player—moving more swiftly, hitting better shots, and elevating every aspect of her game to another level."
This marks the second time in her career that Anisimova has defeated a top-2 player; earlier this year at Wimbledon, she upset world No.1 Sabalenka in the semifinals. She also became the first American woman since the Williams sisters to reach the semifinals on all three Grand Slam surfaces (Anisimova reached the French Open semifinals in 2019 and the Wimbledon final this year).
"Honestly, it still feels a bit unreal," Anisimova admitted. "This is my best performance at the US Open and means a great deal. Today is undoubtedly the most important victory of my life."
Anisimova will face Naomi Osaka in the semifinals, marking their first meeting since the 2022 French Open. In their previous two encounters, Anisimova has won both times.
