Zheng Qinwen has dropped out of the top ten, bringing a new face to the women's singles world top ten!

As the 2025 tour enters a new week, several new tournaments have started this week, such as the WTA 500 Ningbo event, WTA 250 Osaka event, ATP 250 Stockholm tournament, and ATP 250 Brussels tournament. Despite approaching the season's conclusion, the competition continues to be exciting and captivating.

At the same time, the newest PIF WTA world rankings have been published. First, let's focus on the latest rankings of China’s female stars. After missing multiple tournaments including Wuhan and Ningbo, Zheng Qinwen’s ranking fell one spot this week to number 11 after the points from the same period last year were deducted.

This marks Zheng Qinwen’s first time dropping out of the world’s top ten since the Australian Open last year. She had maintained a consecutive 89 weeks in the top ten, but due to a right elbow injury causing her to miss nearly the entire American and Asian seasons, she suffered a significant loss of ranking points.

Wang Xinyu’s world ranking also declined this week. After early exits in the first rounds of the high-level Beijing and Wuhan tournaments, and losing 390 points from her semifinal finish at last year’s Wuhan Open, her ranking plummeted 25 places to 62nd this week.

Veteran Zhang Shuai reached the round of 32 in women’s singles at the China Open and made the last 16 at the Wuhan Open. Her ranking improved by 23 spots this week to 119th. With less than 100 points separating her from the top 100, a few singles wins in Ningbo this week could help her climb further.

Among international players, two American players who met in the women’s singles final at last week’s Wuhan Open—Gauff and Pegula—both saw significant ranking improvements. Gauff, who won the title and earned 1000 points, now holds a total of 7873 points, maintaining her position firmly at world number three.

Although veteran Pegula finished as runner-up, her ranking rose by one spot, surpassing Russian player Andreyeva and returning to the top 5.

In this week’s women’s singles top ten, we see a new face—Russia’s Aleksandrova moved up one place to tenth, marking her first time breaking into the top 10 in her career.

Although Aleksandrova hasn’t had exceptionally standout performances in the past 12 months, she has been consistent on the tour, reaching three WTA 500 finals this season—winning Linz, and finishing runner-up in Monterrey and Seoul.

Additionally, she reached the round of 16 in the French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open. This year, her total WTA match wins have surpassed 40, reflecting a very solid overall performance.

Notably, Aleksandrova defeated the current world number one this season, stunning fans by beating top seed Sabalenka at the Doha tournament to advance further.(Source: Tennis Home, Author: Barbie)
