Jannik Sinner achieved an effortless win despite doubts regarding his fitness before participating in the Six Kings Slam 2025.
The current world No. 2, Jannik Sinner, comfortably beat Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-2, 6-3 in the opening match of the Six Kings Slam 2025 early on October 16, Vietnam time.
Both players entered this year’s Six Kings Slam with physical concerns, but Tsitsipas’s issues were more severe as he skipped the entire Asian tour, making his decision to compete in Saudi Arabia’s tournament — the one with the largest prize pool globally — quite surprising.
It was difficult for Tsitsipas, struggling with back problems, to challenge Sinner on the indoor hard court. He lost three consecutive service games in the first set and fell behind 0-5. The 27-year-old managed to break back once and scored his first service point before Sinner closed the set 6-2.
In the second set, Sinner continued to dominate, quickly taking a 3-0 lead with two breaks of serve. The Italian lost a break later but maintained a commanding advantage. In the ninth game, the reigning Six Kings Slam champion broke Tsitsipas’s serve once more to seal the match after just 1 hour and 16 minutes.
This victory advances Sinner to the semifinals of this year’s Six Kings Slam, where he will face Novak Djokovic, who received a bye in the first round. The other semifinal will feature Carlos Alcaraz against Taylor Fritz, who comfortably defeated Alexander Zverev in the opening round.
Despite early exits, Tsitsipas and Zverev will still collect a hefty sum of $1.5 million each. The Six Kings Slam champion will earn a record $6 million prize — the highest in tennis history.
