ATP Almaty: Medvedev defeats Moutet, ending a two-and-a-half-year title drought

On October 19 local time, the 2025 ATP 250 Almaty event wrapped up, as the second seed Medvedev triumphed over eighth seed Moutet in the final with a scoreline of 7-5, 4-6, 6-3, securing his 21st career trophy and ending a title drought lasting two and a half years since the 2023 Rome Masters.

In their previous encounters, both players had won once each, making their head-to-head evenly matched. The most recent meeting was at this year’s ATP 500 Washington quarterfinals, where Moutet emerged victorious. In this match, Moutet started strong by breaking serve early and taking the initiative, but he lost his serve multiple times towards the end of the set, allowing Medvedev to clinch it 7-5. In the second set, Moutet again broke early and maintained his lead to even the match at 6-4. In the deciding set, Medvedev capitalized on his sixth break point in the eighth game for a crucial break and ultimately sealed the victory 6-3.

“I want to thank my team and family. This is the first time I’ve competed with my two daughters and wife present, and winning the title feels amazing. I dedicate this trophy to my second daughter Victoria; when my first daughter Alisa was born, I also won a big title. I came to Almaty from Shanghai feeling in poor form, thinking I might not win a single match. Thanks to my coach, I felt better and better,” Medvedev said during the trophy ceremony.

In the men’s doubles final, the fourth seeds Aribazhe and Olivetti defeated Schnait and Wollner 6-4, 7-6(8) to claim the championship.
